Background: Collaborative research in global surgery has resulted in the rapid development of the field via knowledge creation and dissemination, research capacity building, and direct improvements in the delivery of clinical care. Yet the establishment and maintenance of trans-boundary collaborations carries significant risk to health systems, clinicians, patients, and researchers, particularly if such collaborations are not developed thoughtfully and with appropriate guardrails. In recent years, there has been significant growth in the literature on the pervasiveness and impact of neocolonialism on global health research.
Methods: To harness the benefits of global surgery research collaboration while mitigating these risks, we reviewed the literature, collaboratively developed best practice statements, and iteratively refined these.
Results: Eighty-one best practice statements were developed across six themes: establishing partnerships, managing power imbalances, addressing equity in funding, ensuring high ethical standards in Human Subjects Research, maintaining quality and rigor in scientific work, and long-term planning.
Conclusions: These statements will form the basis of a Delphi process to establish a robust set of guidelines for best practice in collaborative global surgery research.

Intracranial calcifications (ICCs) are a characteristic neuropathological feature of several congenital viral infections, including Zika virus (ZIKV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV). These lesions are linked to severe neurodevelopmental outcomes, such as microcephaly, epilepsy, and cognitive deficits, yet the mechanisms underlying their formation and resolution remain unclear. ICCs are thought to arise from an imbalance in osteogenic and osteolytic signaling in the developing brain.

Teleproctoring offers a remote alternative to traditional surgical mentoring, addressing logistical barriers in robotic surgery education. We conducted a prospective trial to assess the feasibility and trainee perception of teleproctoring using the Proximie platform. Eighteen surgeons with limited robotic experience performed a standardized enterotomy closure on synthetic bowel models using the da Vinci Si system, while receiving real-time remote guidance from an expert located 2570 km away.

Background: Endometriosis symptoms have multifaceted manifestations, and there are few approved nonsurgical treatment options. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists/antagonists for endometriosis vary on efficacy, safety profile, and out-of-pocket (OOP) cost, among other features.
Objectives: This study quantified the importance that women with endometriosis in the United States (US) placed on pain and non-pain features that differ among these medications.
Purpose Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the dominant subtype of renal malignancy, has a rising global incidence and mortality. While surgery is the standard of care for localized cases, adjuvant therapy aims to improve outcomes in high-risk postoperative patients. To quantify the clinical value of adjuvant pharmacotherapy, this systematic review and meta-analysis assesses its effect on overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with ccRCC.

The International Center for the Study of Breast Cancer Subtypes (ICSBCS) has played a vital role in defining and overcoming many inequities that exist in breast cancer treatment and outcome on a global basis through capacity-building programs that improve the management of breast cancer patients across the African diaspora. ICSBCS activities also fill critical gaps in disparities research related to the genetics of ancestry. Over the past 20 years, ICSBCS teams have spearheaded landmark studies documenting the relevance of genetic African ancestry to breast cancer risk, while also improving the quality of care delivered to patients in diverse communities.
