The paraventricular thalamic nucleus (PVT) integrates subcortical signals related to arousal, stress, addiction, and anxiety with top-down cortical influences. Increases or decreases in PVT activity exert profound, long-lasting effects on behavior related to motivation, addiction and homeostasis. Yet the sources of its subcortical excitatory and inhibitory afferents, their distribution within the PVT, and their integration with layer-specific cortical inputs remain unclear.

Climate change and anthropogenic pressures alter phytoplankton phenology, distribution, and bloom frequency. Healthy phytoplankton communities are crucial for biogeochemical processes, blue carbon sequestration, and climate change mitigation. By employing high-throughput 18S V4 rRNA metabarcoding, we addressed the need for profiling phytoplankton community and response mechanisms in urbanized coastal ecosystems.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are man-made pollutants widely used in industrial and consumer products, known to pose significant health risks. While their occurrence in water, soil, and food has been extensively studied, limited research has focused on ambient air, particularly in the U.S.

Personalized Federated Learning (pFL) has received extensive attentions, due to its ability to effectively process non-IID data distributed among different clients. However, most of the existing pFL methods focus on the collaboration between global and local models to enrich the personalization process, but ignoring a lot of valuable historical information, which represents the unique learning trajectory of each client. In this paper, we propose a pFL method called FedLFH, which introduces a tracking variable that allows each client to preserve historical information to facilitate personalization.

Background: In the United States, a severe organ shortage precipitates an extensive transplant waitlist. Living donor kidneys are functionally superior to those from deceased donors and offer an alternative to close the supply-demand gap.
Methods: A retrospective review of 2147 patients who self-referred to begin the living kidney donation workup process at our center between June 1, 2012, and October 1, 2023 was conducted with subsequent statistical analysis of gathered data.
