Article Abstract

The global transition to digital health offers a critical opportunity to transform health care delivery, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Stroke care exemplifies the need for timely, coordinated, and longitudinal management across health systems. Although substantial progress has been achieved, low- and middle-income countries continue to encounter persistent challenges, including infrastructural deficiencies, digital inequity, fragmented governance structures, and limitations within the health care workforce. Nonetheless, scalable digital health interventions, such as telestroke networks, mobile health platforms, artificial intelligence-supported diagnostics, and telerehabilitation programs, have demonstrated efficacy and impact across diverse contexts. The central challenge has, thus, shifted from technological development to the systemic integration of these solutions within existing health infrastructures. Crucially, low- and middle-income countries must not be perceived solely as passive recipients of technology but as active agents of innovation, developing efficient, adaptive, and culturally attuned models prioritizing community engagement and a holistic conception of health. To realize the transformative potential of digital health, it is imperative to invest not only in technological infrastructure but also in promoting digital literacy, establishing robust ethical and regulatory frameworks, fostering cross-sectoral partnerships, and creating inclusive innovation ecosystems. Only through such a comprehensive, human-centered approach can digital health effectively serve as a catalyst for more equitable, resilient, and sustainable health systems, particularly for populations residing in resource-constrained settings.

Importance: Patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs) frequently experience psychological distress; however, access to psychological support remains limited.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a digital psychological intervention for individuals with IRDs.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Participants aged 18 years or older were recruited across Germany between February 22 and June 4, 2024, if they had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or systemic lupus erythematosus and reported psychological distress and reduced quality of life.

Background: Alveolar molding plate treatment (AMPT) plays a critical role in preparing neonates with cleft lip and palate (CLP) for the first reconstruction surgery (cleft lip repair). However, determining the number of adjustments to AMPT in near-normalizing cleft deformity prior to surgery is a challenging task, often affecting the treatment duration. This study explores the use of machine learning in predicting treatment duration based on three-dimensional (3D) assessments of the pre-treatment maxillary cleft deformity as part of individualized treatment planning.

The antibiotic contamination in aquatic environments, particularly in aquaculture systems, poses substantial risks to ecological balance and human health. To address this issue, we engineered a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe utilizing dual-emission carbon dots (D-CDs) synthesized from sustainable biomass carrot and nitrogen-rich precursors (melamine and o-phenylenediamine) through an efficient one-pot hydrothermal approach. The D-CDs exhibited dual emission peaks at 425nm and 540 nm under 370nm excitation.

In vitro assessment of the inhibitory effect of antiplatelet drugs on platelet aggregation is frequently employed to guide personalized antiplatelet therapy in clinical practice. However, existing methods for detecting platelet aggregation rely heavily on high concentrations of exogenous agonists, which may obscure part of the inhibitory effect of antiplatelet drugs and lead to an underestimation of their effects. This study validates a novel analytical strategy for evaluating the effects of antiplatelet drugs by quantifying the microscopic three-dimensional morphological parameters of platelet aggregates formed through spontaneous aggregation on a glass surface.

Cannabis use is common among US youth who become involved in the juvenile legal system (JLS), yet substance use treatment rates remain low, particularly among youth diverted away from formal JLS involvement. Diverted youth encounter multiple barriers to receiving services in the community that could be addressed via digital approaches offered by the JLS. This multiphase work details development of the TECH (Teen Empowerment through Computerized Health) app, a tailored digital adjunct to usual JLS services.
