Article Abstract

Purpose: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) aims to alleviate pain and restore function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. While the Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) are established measures of patient satisfaction and functional outcomes after TKA, they may not directly capture the patient's subjective perception of the joint itself. The FJS was used to assess concurrent validity, as it reflects the degree to which patients are unaware of their artificial joint, which is related to joint perception. The patient's joint perception (PJP) question offers a simplified alternative to evaluate joint awareness.

Methods: This prospective observational study included patients who underwent TKA between 2018 and 2023. An Arabic version of the PJP (Ar-PJP) question was translated using a forward-backwards translation process. Participants completed the PJP, FJS, and reduced WOMAC at two time points, three weeks apart. Statistical analyses assessed validity and reliability using Pearson's correlation coefficient.

Results: A total of 100 participants were included in the study. The mean PJP score was 28.9 (standard deviation [SD]: 13.7), and the mean WOMAC score was 46.1 (SD: 17.8). A moderate negative correlation was found between the Ar-PJP score and FJS ( = -0.683;  < 0.001), A moderate negative correlation was found between the Ar-PJP score and FJS ( = -0.683;  < 0.001), while the correlation with WOMAC was weak and non-significant ( = -0.088;  = 0.382), supporting discriminant validity.

Conclusions: The Ar-PJP is a valid and reliable tool for assessing patients' perceptions post-TKA. As a single-question measure, it simplifies evaluations and enhances patient care in Arabic-speaking populations.

Level Of Evidence: Level II.

The impact of surgeons' visual angle misperception on acetabular cup positioning accuracy: a retrospective multicentre cohort study.

Int J Surg

September 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orthopaedic Implants, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Background: Precise acetabular cup placement in total hip arthroplasty (THA) heavily relies on surgeons' visual judgment of angles. However, whether inherent visual angle misperception among surgeons affects surgical outcomes remains unclear. This study is the first to reveal that surgeons universally exhibit visual angle misperception, a key factor causing the cup implant positioning deviations in THA.

Optically Controlled Memristor Enabling Synergistic Sensing-Memory-Computing for Neuromorphic Vision Systems.

Key Laboratory of Brain-Like Neuromorphic Devices and Systems of Hebei Province, College of Electronic and Information Engineering, Hebei University, Baoding, 071002, China.

Neuromorphic Visual Devices hold considerable promise for integration into neuromorphic vision systems that combine sensing, memory, and computing. This potential arises from their synergistic benefits in optical signal detection and neuro-inspired computational processes. However, current devices face challenges such as insufficient light/dark resistance ratios, mismatched transient photo-response, and volatile retention characteristics, limiting their adaptability to complex artificial vision systems.

Background: This study investigates the clinical value of a structured team approach incorporating shared decision-making in managing critically ill pregnant patients within an obstetrics intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 100 critically ill pregnant women admitted to our hospital's obstetrics ICU between January 2023 and December 2024. Participants were allocated via random number table to either the control group receiving conventional multidisciplinary resuscitation care (n = 50) or the observation group receiving the structured team model with shared decision-making (n = 50).

Generalized visual grounding tasks, including Generalized Referring Expression Comprehension (GREC) and Segmentation (GRES), extend the classical visual grounding paradigm by accommodating multi-target and non-target scenarios. Specifically, GREC focuses on accurately identifying all referential objects at the coarse bounding box level, while GRES aims for achieve fine-grained pixel-level perception. However, existing approaches typically treat these tasks independently, overlooking the benefits of jointly training GREC and GRES to ensure consistent multi-granularity predictions and streamline the overall process.
