Background: The liver cone unit (Tokyo 2020 terminology) of the peripheral portal vein territory represents the smallest anatomical and functional unit of the liver. Background: Hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), or veno-occlusive disease (VOD), is a severe complication following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), often leading to liver dysfunction and poor outcomes if not detected early. Traditional diagnostic methods, including ultrasound and liver biopsy, have limitations in sensitivity and feasibility. Non-invasive elastography techniques, such as transient elastography (TE) and shear-wave elastography (SWE), offer a promising alternative by quantitatively assessing liver stiffness.

Diet and obesity contribute to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, in part via the gut microbiome. To explore the role of gut-derived metabolites in this process, we assessed portal/peripheral blood metabolites in mice with different risks of obesity/diabetes, challenged with a high-fat diet (HFD) + antibiotics. In diabetes/obesity-prone C57BL/6J mice, 111 metabolites were portally enriched and 74 were peripherally enriched, many of which differed in metabolic-syndrome-resistant 129S1/129S6 mice.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of durvalumab and tremelimumab (Dur/Tre) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who had a tumor thrombus in the main portal vein trunk (Vp4) or high tumor burden (HTB).
Methods: A total of 309 patients with BCLC stage B or C HCC who received Dur/Tre between March 2023 and October 2024 were included. HTB was defined as the presence of at least one of the following radiological findings: ≥ 50% liver involvement by HCC, bile duct invasion, or the presence of Vp4.
