Three polymorphs of a semiconducting Cd(II)-thiolate coordination polymer with the formula [Cd(2-SNPh)] (2-HSNPh = 2-naphthalenethiol) have been reported. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis revealed that adopts a one-dimensional (1D) structure composed of single-strand (-Cd-S-) ladder chains, whereas adopts a 1D architecture with double-strand (-Cd-S-) chains assembled through S···S interactions. In contrast, microcrystal electron diffraction analysis demonstrated that , obtained through thermal treatment of and , exhibits the formation of a 1D structure comprising triple-strand (-Cd-S-) chains, also formed via S···S interactions. This thermally induced, irreversible structural transformation to is accompanied by a transition from a nonpolar structure to a polar structure, leading to the emergence of second harmonic generation activity. Furthermore, time-resolved microwave conductivity measurements and first-principles calculations demonstrated that all three polymorphs exhibit photoconductivity, which is attributed to charge transport along the inorganic (-Cd-S-) chains via a hopping mechanism.

Castleman disease (CD) is a group of lymphoproliferative disorders characterized by abnormal enlargement of lymph nodes (LNs) and a wide range of symptoms. Only a few cases are found in the head and neck. Based on clinical presentation and evolution, the disease can be classified into two main subtypes: unicentric CD (UCD), characterized by the enlargement of a single LN or a single LN chain, and multicentric CD (MCD), characterized by the involvement of multiple LNs and regions, with more important systemic symptoms and a poor prognosis.

Cadmium (Cd), a prevalent environmental contaminant, exerts widespread toxic effects on human health through various biochemical and molecular mechanisms. This review encapsulates the primary pathways through which Cd inflicts damage, including oxidative stress induction, disruption of Ca signaling, interference with cellular signaling pathways, and epigenetic modifications. By detailing the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of Cd, alongside its interactions with cellular components such as mitochondria and DNA, this paper highlights the extensive damage caused by Cd at the cellular and tissue levels.

One-dimensional (1D) Cd(II) coordination polymers [Cd(-SPhOMe)] ( = , , and ; HSPhOMe = methoxybenzenethiol) containing inorganic 1D (-Cd-S-) chains were synthesized. Among these, the KGF-31 polymer bearing -SPhOMe featured a three-strand chain structure assembled interchain S⋯S interactions and exhibited high photoconductivity and longevity.

The bioactive sphingolipid sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) acts as a ligand for a family of G protein-coupled S1P receptors (S1PR1-5) to participate in a variety of signaling pathways. However, their specific roles in the neural retina remain unclear. We previously showed that S1P receptor subtype 2 (S1PR2) is expressed in murine retinas, primarily in photoreceptors and bipolar cells, and its expression is altered by retinal stress.
