ObjectivesGenome-wide association studies have identified as a gene linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Several single-nucleotide polymorphisms-notably, rs7671167, rs2869967, rs2869966, and rs17014601-are associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease susceptibility and spirometric indices. This study aimed to investigate the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms and spirometric indices in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and non-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients and assess the correlation of these single-nucleotide polymorphisms with pulmonary ventilation function.MethodsThis study included 160 participants (80 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients and 80 controls) who underwent clinical evaluation and spirometry at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from March 2021 to February 2023.ResultsThe mean patient age was 66.3 ± 7.9 years. Significant differences in allele frequencies of the studied single-nucleotide polymorphisms were observed between the two groups. TT genotypes at rs7671167 and rs17014601 and CT genotypes at rs7671167, rs2869967, and rs2869966 were associated with significant differences in forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, and Tiffeneau index.ConclusionThe CT genotype at rs7671167, rs2869967, and rs2869966 is significantly associated with altered spirometric parameters, suggesting a role in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-related lung function impairment.

Background: Tracheobronchial injuries (TBI) are rare yet potentially fatal complications of blunt chest trauma, often underdiagnosed due to nonspecific clinical manifestations.
Case Presentation: We report the case of an 11-year-old Arab girl who developed progressive dyspnea two months after a motor vehicle accident initially managed conservatively. Imaging revealed complete atelectasis of the right lung and obstruction of the right main bronchus by granulation tissue.

Tobacco smoke is the main risk factor for the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite current therapies alleviate symptoms there are limitations in the efficacy of treatments to curb its cardiovascular morbidities, particularly vascular dysfunction and the development of pulmonary hypertension. Our previous studies demonstrate that cigarette smoke directly contributes to pulmonary arterial dysfunction.

Background: Vascular changes are observed in children with cystic fibrosis (cwCF), and gender-specific differences may impact arterial stiffness. We aimed to compare arterial stiffness and clinical parameters based on gender in cwCF and to determine the factors affecting arterial stiffness in cwCF.
Methods: Fifty-eight cwCF were included.

: This study aimed to compare the long-term outcomes of a modified réparation à l'étage ventriculaire (REV) and the Rastelli repair for ventricular septal defect (VSD) and pulmonary outflow tract obstruction without ventriculoarterial concordance. : The study included 100 consecutive patients who underwent a modified REV ( = 50) or Rastelli repair ( = 50) for transposition of the great arteries, double outlet right ventricle, or double outlet left ventricle with VSD and pulmonary outflow tract obstruction. The mean ages of the patients who underwent the modified REV and Rastelli repair were 2.

Hemoptysis, defined as the expectoration of blood originating from the lower respiratory tract, is a clinical symptom with a wide differential diagnosis that ranges from benign to life-threatening causes. Common causes vary by geographic region and care setting, with respiratory infections, malignancy, bronchiectasis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease being predominant in resource-rich countries and tuberculosis remaining the leading cause in resource-limited areas. Though most cases are mild and self-limited, hemoptysis can be a life-threatening medical emergency; these cases are associated with a mortality exceeding 50%, primarily due to asphyxia.
