Article Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a prevalent dermatological condition, yet clear, region-specific management guidelines, particularly for India's diverse population, remain limited. Effective acne management extends beyond pharmacologic therapy, emphasizing proper skincare, patient education, and adherence strategies. This consensus aims to provide tailored, evidence-based recommendations for optimizing acne treatment in the Indian context. A panel of 14 dermatology experts with ≥15 years of experience reviewed literature, real-world clinical practices, and patient-centric factors relevant to acne management in India. Using a modified Delphi process with two virtual voting rounds, 61 statements across seven clinical domains were evaluated. Consensus was defined as ≥75% agreement. Topical retinoids remain the first-line therapy, with combination regimens (benzoyl peroxide or topical antibiotics) preferred to enhance efficacy and minimize antibiotic resistance. Hormonal therapies, including combined oral contraceptives and spironolactone, are recommended for females with resistant acne. Guidance includes individualized treatment plans, baseline investigations, and selection of appropriate topical and systemic agents. Special considerations for pregnancy and lactation prioritize maternal and fetal safety. This expert consensus provides practical, evidence-based recommendations for acne management in India, integrating pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. The tailored guidance supports individualized care, antibiotic stewardship, and improved treatment adherence, aiming to enhance patient outcomes nationwide.

Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland.

Background: Maintaining homeostasis in the upper pilosebaceous unit in acne-prone skin has emerged as the primary goal for effective and long-term acne management.

Summary: In this review, we describe advances in acne research that have helped redefine the strategic targets for new topical acne treatments, providing the basis for new therapeutic strategies that may allow this goal to be achieved.

Key Messages: First, we describe the results of studies analyzing apparently uninvolved skin from individuals with acne, using sequential skin surface biopsies.

Acne vulgaris (AV) is a common dermatological condition characterized by inflammatory and noninflammatory skin lesions. Isotretinoin (IOS), a systemic retinoid, is widely recognized for its efficacy in managing severe AV due to its potent anti-inflammatory and sebosuppressive properties. IOS interacts with nuclear receptors belonging to the steroid-thyroid hormone superfamily.

Department of Social Medicine and Health Management, School of Public Health,Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, China

Objectives: The presence of acne can significantly impact patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL); however, the correlation between patient-reported HRQoL impairment and clinician-evaluated severity has been unclear. The objective of the study was to evaluate HRQoL in patients with different acne severity using generic, dermatology-specific and acne-specific instruments and investigate the correlation between clinical severity and HRQoL.

Design: Data for the cross-sectional survey were extracted from March 2017 to December 2018.

Background In acne-prone skin, the loss of homeostasis leads to aberrant epithelial differentiation, promoting the formation of microcomedones. The maintenance of sebaceous stem cell homeostasis has emerged as a new therapeutic target in acne management. Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of a topical formulation combining retinaldehyde, glycolic acid, and Silybum marianum fruit extract for the treatment of acne vulgaris.
