Article Abstract

This study explores a non-destructive detection method utilizing the afterglow effect of maltodextrin (MD) for tablet quality detection. Firstly, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed MD's phosphorescence mechanisms. Then, MD tablets were prepared for hardness response, disintegration testing, and hygroscopicity testing. Content uniformity of tablets was assessed by mixing MD with non-afterglow materials. Phosphorescence lifetime and afterglow signal of the tablet were measured using a fluorescence spectrophotometer and afterglow imaging analysis. MD's hydroxyl groups readily form hydrogen-bonded networks, facilitating phosphorescent emission. MD tablets stored in different humidity environment conditions such as 94 %, 57 %, 43 %, and 11 % for 6 h showed phosphorescence lifetimes of 86.15, 84.80, 78.01, and 66.40 ms, respectively. Phosphorescence lifetimes of MD tablets with hardnesses of 70, 100, 130, and 160 N were 65.17, 67.12, 67.84, and 67.98 ms, respectively. MD was mixed with polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30 and Andrographis Herbal in a ratio of 3:7 and 8:2, respectively. The mixture was prepared into tablets. Uniformity content tablets had gray value relative standard deviations of 15.00 %, 20.38 %, and 15.28 %, and inhomogeneous ones were 88.87 % and 36.70 %. This work highlights that MD is stimulus-responsive to moisture and hardness, and will promote the development of non-destructive tablet detection technology.

J Ayurveda Integr Med

September 2025

Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, 695012, India; Under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi, India.

This case report is the description of a devastating illness, Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP) of a sixty-seven years old male patient. He presented with complaints of slurred speech, hearing impairment, generalised weakness of limbs, weakened grip to hold objects in hand, difficulty to walk with normal speed, frequent dizzy feeling while walking, severe fatigue, increased anger, heaviness of head, depression, anxiety, decreased memory and headache for 1 year. When he consulted conventional medicine, in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of brain, only 'Partial empty sella' and age related mild cerebral atrophy was detected and the patient was diagnosed PBP clinically.

Caffeic acid is a key indicator of wine quality, but its sensitive and accurate detection remains challenging due to the lack of high-performance sensing materials. Metal/N-doped porous carbon (M/NPC) electrocatalysts with abundant catalytic sites are promising to address this issue. Herein, a FeCo nanoalloy encapsulated in NPC (FeCo@NPC) was designed and synthesized via a "covalent organic framework (COF) adsorption-pyrolysis" strategy.

The quality of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is a critical foundation for ensuring the stability of its efficacy, as well as the safety and effectiveness of its clinical use. The identification of critical quality attributes(CQAs) is one of the core components of TCM preparation quality control. This study focuses on Jianwei Xiaoshi Tablets and explores their CQAs related to property and flavor from the perspective of taste receptor proteins.

Roller compaction is often utilized as the first step to improve flow properties and homogeneity of pharmaceutical mixtures. Since the dry granulation process is less complicated than its counterparts in the industry, it is possible to perform screening experiments readily to investigate granulate quality for further operations. In this study, the aim of the investigation focused on the effect of roller compaction on the dissolution of granules and tablets of two pharmaceutical formulations that contain APIs of different biopharmaceutical classification.
