Management and safety of same day bilateral intravitreal anti-VEGF injections in a treat-and-extend regimen.

BMC Ophthalmol

August 2025

Vista Augenklinik Binningen, Hauptstrasse 55, Binningen, 4102, Switzerland.

Background: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intravitreal injection treatment (IVT)s are gold standard for various neovascular retinal diseases, including neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Same day bilateral IVTs are commonly performed off-label worldwide to reduce patient burden, despite limited safety data. This study evaluates the safety and management of bilateral same day anti-VEGF injections within a treat-and-extend regimen (TER) and proposes a clinical guideline for coordination of bilateral treatment.

Rationale: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) is defined as the implantation and development of blastocysts outside the uterine cavity. Unilateral tubal pregnancy accounts for approximately 90% of all EP cases, whereas bilateral tubal pregnancy (BTP) is a rare variant. The incidence of BTP ranges from 1 in 750 to 1 in 1,580 of all ectopic pregnancies and is more common in women who have undergone assisted reproductive technology (ART) than in those with natural conception.

Background: Uterus didelphys, or"double uterus,"is caused by the failure of Müllerian ducts fusion, eventually forming two uterine cavities, and it is one of the rare uterine malformations.Uterus didelphys and twin pregnancies are extremely rare clinically. In this paper, we report a case of twin pregnancy with uterus didelphys, simultaneous spontaneous conception with bilateral uterus and 12 weeks' interval of delivery.

Cortex-wide spatiotemporal motifs of theta oscillations are coupled to freely moving behavior.

Front Syst Neurosci

Institute of Neuroscience and Department of Psychology, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR, United States.

Multisensory information is combined across the cortex and assimilated into the continuous production of ongoing behavior. In the hippocampus, theta oscillations (4-12 Hz) radiate as large-scale traveling waves, and serve as a scaffold for neuronal ensembles of multisensory information involved in memory and movement-related processing. An extension of such an encoding framework across the neocortex could similarly serve to bind disparate multisensory signals into ongoing, coherent, phase-coded processes.
