Article Abstract

exhibits a unique pigment profile distinct from land plants and green algae. In this study, we purified photosystem I supercomplexes containing light-harvesting complexes (PSI-LHCI) from strain Z and analyzed their biochemical and spectroscopic properties. The PSI-LHCI contained diadinoxanthin while lacking lutein and violaxanthin, which are characteristic of green-lineage organisms. The absorption and 77-K fluorescence spectra of PSI-LHCI showed the Qy peak of chlorophyll at 675 nm and emission at 732 nm, respectively, comparable to land plant PSI-LHCI. These findings suggest conservation of long-wavelength chlorophylls despite distinct pigment-binding characteristics, shedding light on light-harvesting adaptations in secondary green algae.

Unlabelled: CO concentration mechanisms (CCMs) are important in maintaining the high efficiency of photosynthesis of marine algae. Aquatic photoautotrophs have two types of CCMs: biophysical CCMs, based on the conversion of inorganic carbon, and biochemical CCMs, based on the formation of C acid intermediates. However, the contribution of biophysical and biochemical CCMs to algal carbon fixation remains unclear.

Introduction: The production of bio-oil from microalgae is gaining attention as an alternative renewable energy source. To generate advances in this field, it is essential to identify the gaps in existing research. Overcoming this barrier necessitates addressing methodologies that can assess the existing work and develop relationships between publications, research groups, and their impact.

Photosynthetic organisms have evolved diverse strategies to adapt to fluctuating light conditions, balancing efficient light capture with photoprotection. In green algae and land plants, this involves specialized light-harvesting complexes (LHCs), non-photochemical quenching, and state transitions driven by dynamic remodeling of antenna proteins associated with Photosystems (PS) I and II. Euglena gracilis, a flagellate with a secondary green plastid, represents a distantly related lineage whose light-harvesting regulation remains poorly understood.

Neonicotinoid insecticides residuals pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health. Imidaclothiz, as a novel neonicotinoid pesticide, the metabolic mechanisms in aquatic environments was unclear. This study investigated the degradation characteristics of imidaclothiz in both pure and actual water, and analyzed the photodegradation and hydrolysis metabolites of imidaclothiz in aquatic environments and assessed their toxicity.

September 2025

Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center for Marine Bio-resources Sustainable Utilization, College of Oceanography, Hohai University, Nanjing 210098, China. Electronic address:

Cyanophages are widely distributed viruses that specifically infect blue-green algae and play a critical role as biological control agents in aquatic ecosystems. Despite their ecological importance, the effects of light on cyanophage-host interactions are not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of host photosynthesis in different stages of MaMV-DH01 infection, a novel muscle-tailed cyanophage isolated from Donghu Lake that targets Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB524.
