The taxonomic status of Oshmarin, Mamaev & Parukhin, 1961 () and Manter, 1963 is controversial due to overlap/confusion in distinctive diagnostic characteristics for each genus and morphological/allometric ambiguity among some of their representatives and/or within records of the same species. To address these in-depth, morphological descriptions, molecular characterizations, and species delimitation analyses were conducted using a combination of comparative morphology, molecular phylogeny, multivariate analyses, and host-parasite data. Following a comprehensive review, a refined restricted concept of and is proposed.

The structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC)-family Wadjet complex restricts plasmid transformation in bacteria through a distinctive mechanism coupling DNA loop extrusion and cleavage. In this issue of Structure, Roisné-Hamelin et al. report the biochemical reconstitution and structure of a type II Wadjet complex, revealing a shared overall mechanism and notable architectural differences compared to related type I complexes.

Many bacteria use quorum sensing to control gene transcription based on population density. A recent study in PLOS Biology found that in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, two quorum sensing circuits activate each other, enhancing robustness and explaining their redundancy.

This commentary addresses Kuwabara et al.'s study on biochemical pregnancy loss (BPL) in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) patients following euploid embryo transfers. While their methodology minimizes embryonic bias and strengthens maternal factor assessment, concerns regarding statistical interpretation and potential ascertainment bias limit generalizability.
