Article Abstract

Mucormycosis is a rare, life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection with high mortality rates that primarily affects immunocompromised patients. The co-occurrence of dengue fever and mucormycosis is extremely rare, with only a few cases reported worldwide. We report a case of a 50-year-old female diagnosed with mucormycos following dengue fever. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of invasive rhino-orbital mucormycosis following severe dengue fever in Vietnam. This case emphasizes the importance of close monitoring for opportunistic infections in patients with severe dengue fever and the necessity of combining antifungal therapy with surgical debridement to improve outcomes.

Flaviviruses contain many important human pathogens such as dengue virus (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV), for which effective and safe vaccines are still lacking, mainly because pre-existing cross-reactive non-neutralizing antibodies may exacerbate subsequent infections with related flaviviruses. To overcome this challenge, we explore Vectored ImmunoProphylaxis (VIP), which involves the passive transfer of protective antibody genes via viral vectors for in vivo expression. We utilized a recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) to express a broad anti-flavivirus neutralizing human monoclonal antibody, bnAb 752-2C8, and tested its protection against four serotypes of DENV and ZIKV.

The control of dengue vector mosquitoes by utilizing plant-based eco-friendly larvicides is pivotal in suppressing the spread of dengue with minimum environmental toxicity. This study aimed to evaluate the larvicidal activity of nanoliposomes containing p-cresol and Myristica fragrans Houtt. essential oil (EO) against Aedes aegypti L.

Background: There is limited data on adult opinions toward school-based vaccination programs, which can supplement clinic-based strategies in the Brazilian public health system. Since 2016, vaccination rates among Brazilian children and adolescents have shown worrisome declines, remaining well below full coverage, including for more recently introduced COVID-19 vaccines. School vaccination programs are not commonly implemented or monitored in Brazil.

Pregnancy demands dynamic immune adaptations to support implantation, fetal growth, and labor while maintaining maternal-fetal tolerance. The immune profile shifts from pro-inflammatory during implantation to anti-inflammatory in mid-pregnancy, reverting to inflammation at labor onset. Key immune cells like NK cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, and T cells dominate the decidua, guiding successful placental development.
