This study proposes a method to create a ring array using birefringence (BR) and conical refraction (CR), where a circularly polarized beam is first divided into 2 sub-beams in BR crystals and then transformed into 2 CR rings in a CR crystal. To validate the method, the propagation of a circularly polarized Gaussian beam in a sequence of two BR YVO crystals and a CR KGW crystal is simulated. The results show a parallelogram spatial structure formed by four sub-beams behind the BR crystals and four CR rings behind the CR crystal. By adjusting the relative orientation of two BR crystals and rotating a half-wave plate between them, either a linear or rectangular CR ring array can be formed. This method is applicable for particle trapping, space communication, and annular pumped solid-state lasers.

Antimalarial resistance is a primary challenge in the treatment of malaria. The ongoing search for novel drug sources remains a critical strategy for addressing this issue. This study evaluated the blood stage antiplasmodial and cytotoxic activities of the crude extract and fractions obtained from Lepidobotrys staudtii.

Objective: To develop a deep learning method for fast and accurate prediction of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) distributions in the human head to support real-time hyperthermia treatment planning (HTP) of brain cancer patients.
Approach: We propose an encoder-decoder neural network with cross-attention blocks to predict SAR maps from brain electrical properties, tumor 3D isocenter coordinates and microwave antenna phase settings. A dataset of 201 simulations was generated using finite-element modeling by varying tissue properties, tumor positions, and antenna phases within a human head model equipped with a three-ring phased-array applicator.

Protein kinases are central regulators of cell signaling and play pivotal roles in a wide array of diseases, most notably cancer and autoimmune disorders. The clinical success of kinase inhibitors-such as imatinib and osimertinib-has firmly established kinases as valuable drug targets. However, the development of selective, potent inhibitors remains challenging due to the conserved nature of the ATP-binding site, off-target effects, resistance mutations, and patient-specific variability.

Objective: Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging overcomes the limitations of 2D ultrasound images by providing comprehensive spatial information. However, challenges remain when imaging larger body parts like legs and arms using traditional linear transducer arrays. The main difficulties include limited scanning range and angle, bone interference that affects penetration depth, and registration difficulties caused by squeezing targets.

We have developed a high-sensitivity data collection and measurement system for time-resolved x-ray diffraction experiments at the Photon Factory Advanced Ring. Use of x-ray pixel array photon counting detectors provides a suitable improvement in measurement sensitivity when compared to existing systems. The system is equipped with a laser that operates with a variable repetition rate, thus making it highly suitable for synchronization with the synchrotron x-ray source and the electronic gating detectors.
