Article Abstract

Recent research has explored the use of non-Gaussian beams, such as ring-shaped pump beams, in end-pumped solid-state lasers to reduce thermal lensing effects. Theoretical studies indicate that the thermal lens is not constant but varies with the radial coordinate , and can be modeled with two or three components depending on the pumping beam profile, top-hat or ring-shaped. This paper introduces a new, to our knowledge, single-component expression for the thermal lens, derived from the mean value and standard deviation, which is applicable to various pump beam shapes. The results show that the ring-shaped beam produces the lowest average thermal lens dioptric power, with the top-hat beam following closely, exhibiting similar power to the Gaussian beam. These findings align with experimental data reported in the literature. This new approach simplifies the representation of the thermal lensing, offering a more accurate method for correcting its effects.

Purpose: Recent literature has demonstrated that 'low-level red-light therapy' may be effective at slowing axial elongation in children, but reports have questioned the safety of some red-light devices. The current work explored the beam characteristics and hazard potential for a myopia control red-light device.

Methods: The optical design and exiting beam characteristics of a sample red-light myopia control device (SECONEE sky-n1201a) were quantified by measuring beam divergence and total flux passing through artificial pupils of 1-9 mm diameter placed at the corneal plane.

Optical Design and Lens Fabrication for Automotive Thermal Imaging Using Chalcogenide Glass.

Micromachines (Basel)

July 2025

School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, Gwangju University, Gwangju 61743, Republic of Korea.

This paper is about the design and fabrication of infrared lenses, which are the core components of thermal imaging cameras to be mounted on vehicles. To produce an athermalized optical system, chalcogenide glass (AsSe) with a lower thermo-optic coefficient () than germanium was adopted as a lens material, and each lens was designed so that defocus occurs in opposite directions depending on temperature. The designed lens was fabricated using a compression molding method, and the molded lenses showed less than 1.

Thermal Control Systems in Projection Lithography Tools: A Comprehensive Review.

Micromachines (Basel)

July 2025

State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China.

This review examines the design of thermal control systems for state-of-the-art deep ultraviolet (DUV) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) projection lithography tools. The lithographic system under investigation integrates several critical subsystems along the optical transmission chain, including the light source, reticle stage, projection optics (featuring DUV refractive lenses and EUV multilayer mirrors), immersion liquid, wafer stage, and metrology systems. Under high-power irradiation conditions with concurrent thermal perturbations, the degradation of thermal stability and gradient uniformity within these subsystems significantly compromises exposure precision.
