Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) enable communication between individuals and computers or other assistive devices by decoding brain activity, thereby reconstructing speech and motor functions for patients with neurological disorders. This study presents a high-resolution micro-electrocorticography (µECoG) BCI based on a flexible, high-density µECoG electrode array, capable of chronically stable and real-time motor decoding. Leveraging micro-nano manufacturing technology, the µECoG BCI achieves a 64-fold increase in electrode density compared to conventional clinical electrode arrays, enhancing spatial resolution while featuring scalability.

IntroductionWe report the successful use of erector spinae (ESP) plane block in the management of a patient with severe respiratory failure secondary to chest trauma requiring invasive ventilation and Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-V ECMO).Case reportA 64-year-old man with flail chest and severe respiratory failure required V-V ECMO. An ESP plane block on day 3 enabled extubation, mobilisation, and secretion clearance, leading to ECMO weaning after six days and discharge 18 days post-injury.

Within a year after a spinal cord injury (SCI), 75% of individuals develop spasticity. While normal movement relies on the ability to adjust reflexes appropriately, and on reciprocal inhibition of antagonistic muscles, spastic individuals display hyperactive spinal reflexes and involuntary muscle co-contractions. Current anti-spastic medications can suppress uncontrolled movements, but by acting on GABAergic signalling, these medications lead to severe side-effects and weakened muscle force, making them incompatible with activity-based therapies.

Effective airway topicalization is essential for awake tracheal fiberoptic intubation (ATI) in patients with a difficult airway. Traditional methods often result in inadequate anesthesia at the laryngeal inlet, leading to patient discomfort, procedural difficulty, and excessive local anesthetic (LA) use. This case series introduces a novel, resource-efficient topicalization technique using standard operating theatre equipment.
