Article Abstract

We have produced superstable compound liquid microjets with a 3D-printed coaxial flow-focusing injector. The aqueous jet core is surrounded by a shell, a few hundred nanometres in thickness, of a low-concentration aqueous solution of a low-molecular-weight polymer. Due to the stabilizing effect of the polymeric shell, the minimum liquid flow rate leading to stable flow-focusing is decreased by one order of magnitude, resulting in much thinner and longer jets. Possible applications of this technique for serial femtosecond X-ray crystallography are discussed.

Tungsten disulfide (WS), a two-dimensional adsorbent material, has garnered great attention in removing lead ions (Pb) from water due to their extensive exposed adsorption sites. However, WS nanosheets inevitably agglomerated and stacked during the preparation and adsorption process, leading to reduced adsorption efficiency. Current method of enhancing WS dispersion is mainly blending with synthetic polymers, but these synthetic polymers themselves do not possess adsorption properties, resulting adsorption effect enhancement poorly.

Purpose: Tumor hypoxia is a key barrier to successful delivery and activity of anti-cancer agents. To tackle this, we designed hypoxia-responsive Au-PEI-Azo-mPEG nanoparticles (NPs) denoted as APAP NPs for targeted delivery of hypoxia-activated prodrug (HAP), tirapazamine (TPZ) to hypoxic breast cancer cells.

Methods: AuNPs were first synthesized.

The increasing concern over environmental pollution from brake dust and the adverse impacts of conventional brake pad materials, such as metallic, semi-metallic, and ceramic composites, has prompted the exploration of more sustainable alternatives. Traditional brake pads release harmful non-exhaust emissions that contribute to air pollution and wear down quickly, posing both environmental and operational challenges. This study investigates the development and performance evaluation of polymer friction composites enhanced with natural friction modifiers sourced from agricultural waste materials like walnut shell, coconut shell, and groundnut shell powders.

In this study, Fe-Ni-layered double hydroxide modified crayfish shell biochar substrate (Fe-Ni-LDH@CSBC) was successfully prepared and introduced into constructed wetland (CW) to research the Cr(VI) removal mechanism through substrate adsorption and microbial action. Adsorption experiments demonstrated the equilibrium adsorption capacities of Fe-Ni-LDH@CSBC for Cr(VI) could reach 1058.48 (C=10 mg/L) and 1394.

Diclofenac sodium (DS), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used for treating inflammatory pain, has a short elimination half-life, which can lead to fluctuations in blood drug concentration. Therefore, developing sustained-release formulations is necessary to meet clinical needs. Biodegradable polymers exhibit excellent sustained-release properties and good biocompatibility, making them suitable for processing into nanofiber-based drug delivery systems via electrospinning technology.
