Article Abstract

Implant-assisted complete dentures, particularly those utilizing implant-supported bar systems (RP-4), offer significant advantages in patient satisfaction and prosthetic function compared to conventional dentures. However, complications can arise during the direct intraoral pick-up procedure, such as inadvertent resin polymerization in undercut areas, which may lock the overdenture in place. This report introduces a predictable, digitally guided technique to retrieve a locked implant-supported bar overdenture using the original digital design to locate screw access channels and guide targeted occlusal drilling. The method enables the removal of the prosthesis with minimal damage, allowing for chairside repair without the need to remake the denture. This approach enhances the management of such complications and aligns with modern digital workflows in prosthodontics.

Surgical management of the enlarged sublingual gland in mandibular posterior dental implant rehabilitation.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

September 2025

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Galilee College of Dental Sciences, Galilee Medical Center, Nahariya, Israel. Electronic address:

A series of enlarged sublingual glands (SLG) that affected dental implantation procedures and prosthodontic rehabilitation is presented, along with their management. All patients were referred by their treating prosthodontists due to swelling in the floor of the mouth that caused difficulties in fitting dental implants or rehabilitation. Sixteen patients aged 27-80 years (12 female, 4 male), treated between 2015 and 2022, were included in this study.

Objective: This retrospective radiography study's main objective was to compare round and milled bars for mandibular overdentures assisted by 4 mini-dental implants (MDI) on peri-implant marginal bone loss (MBL)and posterior mandibular ridge resorption(PRR) after 8 years.

Materials And Methods: Thirty male Participants in a retrospective analysis were treated between 2016 and 2024 who had four interforaminal mini implants supporting an overdenture on a milled bar. Two equal groups of 15 patients each were randomly assigned to receive mandibular overdentures: Group I received overdentures retained by milled bars, while Group II received overdentures retained by round joint bars.

Background: All-on-4 concept allows the immediate rehabilitation of edentulous arches having anatomical limitations with provisional restoration. However, the acrylic provisional prosthesis has a critical liability to fracture, that's why a reinforcement with splinting bar is a good solution for a longer-term success. Poly Ether Ether ketone has been used as a splinting material since they are biocompatible with an elastic modulus similar to native bone and dentin with shock-absorbing characteristics.
