Promiscuity, or selectivity on a spectrum, is an encoded feature in biomolecular anion recognition. To unravel the molecular drivers of promiscuous anion recognition, we have employed a comprehensive approach - spanning experiment and theory - with the Staphylococcus carnosus nitrate regulatory element A (ScNreA) as a model. Thermodynamic analysis reveals that ScNreA complexation with native nitrate and nitrite or non-native iodide is an exothermic process.

The bioactive organosulfur compound diallyl sulfide (DAS), found in garlic and onions, was analyzed using density functional theory (DFT). DAS exhibits antimicrobial and anticancer properties, making it a potential candidate for drug discovery. Geometry optimization revealed bond lengths and angles consistent with electron delocalization.

For meeting requirements of "green steel" and "circular economy", there was great potential and value to synthesize CO adsorbent with low price and excellent performance by using multiple solid wastes. In this study, a novel method was proposed to synthesize zeolite by blast furnace slag. CO adsorption isotherm, thermodynamic and kinetic were investigated comprehensively.

Spinel lithium manganate (LiMnO) is considered a highly promising cobalt-free cathode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to its three-dimensional Li-ion diffusion channels and the abundance of manganese. However, its practical applications are limited due to the substantial capacity deterioration induced by the Jahn-Teller effect and interfacial instability with the organic electrolyte. In this work, we propose a polyanion-based surface engineering strategy that enables simultaneous doping and the formation of a protective coating on the LiMnO cathode.
