Food-based dietary guidelines aim at promoting healthy dietary choices. Poor adherence has been partially explained by a lack of nutrition knowledge. Yet, little attention has been paid to the specific understanding of the referenced food groups, which is however essential to translate guidelines into practice. In this study, we therefore investigated people's understanding of food groups via their food choices as a rection to dietary prompts (typical, healthy, low-calorie, low-sugar meals). Ninety-six participants (66.7 % female, mean age 22.8 years) self-served four meals at a buffet with realistic food replicas ("Fake Food buffet"). Results indicated that certain food groups were associated with specific dietary characteristics (e.g., vegetables as low in calories, nuts and pulses as healthy and low in sugar). Although other food groups (i.e., fried foods, desserts and other sugary foods) were not associated with any of these characteristics, they were still chosen in typical meals, indicating a knowledge-behaviour gap. Results emphasize that understanding food groups appropriately is critical but does not ensure translating dietary guidelines into practice accordingly. The reaction to the dietary prompt of a healthy meal came particularly close to dietary guidelines and should thus be promoted in practice.

The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of re-vitrification at the pronuclear (PN) stage of porcine embryos generated from vitrified oocytes on subsequent development and to clarify if re-vitrification is more feasible at the PN stage or at the blastocyst stage. Immature porcine oocytes at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage were vitrified/warmed and subjected to in vitro maturation, parthenogenetic activation (PA), and embryo culture. Subsequent parthenotes were either cultured without re-vitrification for 6 days (GV-vit group) or were re-vitrified 8 h after PA at the PN stage (GV-vit/PN-revit group), and after warming, cultured for 6 days.

To evaluate the quality of pomegranate peels from different cultivars, pomegranate peel samples from 47 cultivars were compared and classified based on fingerprints and chemical components obtained using HPLC-PDA-MS/MS combined with chemometric methods. Three pattern recognition methods, namely, hierarchical cluster analysis, principal component analysis, and partial least square-discriminant analysis, were used to establish classification models. Results showed that the contents of 10 components from pomegranate peel were determined.

SYN-53, a multi-strain probiotic food supplement, was recently shown to significantly alleviate allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC) and its symptoms. The diversity and dosage of bacterial strains administered via SYN-53 have been proposed as key drivers of its efficacy. The aim of this study was to assess the role of bacterial diversity and dosage by comparing SYN-53 to a low dose variant (SYN-53-LD), a low diversity variant (SYN-4), and a placebo in the management of ARC.
