Despite the great potential of using electrocatalysts to improve the performance of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, a deficient understanding of the electrocatalytic trends in the sulfur reduction reaction with respect to the adsorption energy of sulfur active species and a lack of descriptors to estimate electrocatalytic activity limit the design of advanced electrocatalysts for Li-S batteries. Herein, we systematically explore the impact of sulfur species adsorption energy on the electrocatalytic activity in Li-S batteries by modulating the metal -band structure of PtM (M = Cu, Fe, Ti, Co) alloy model systems. The PtCo catalyst, possessing a balanced -band center, exhibited the highest redox kinetics and Li-S cell performance due to its lowest energy barrier for the rate-determining step in the sulfur reduction reaction. Furthermore, the adsorption energies of sulfur (S) and lithium (Li) single atoms can offer deeper insights into the electrocatalytic activity in Li-S electrochemistry, indicating their great potential as descriptors to develop advanced electrocatalysts. The volcano-type correlation of the -band center and descriptor with the kinetics of the sulfur reduction reaction highlighted that moderate adsorption of Li and S on the catalyst surface with a balanced -band center is the key to achieving optimal Li-S battery performance. This work emphasizes the importance of tailoring the surface properties and electronic structures of the electrocatalyst according to the intrinsic characteristics of electrocatalysts.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a common diver gene for lung cancer (NSCLC), which leads to an increasing death rate worldwide. This study reports the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of triazole-clubbed pyrimidine derivatives (RDa-RDm) as potential anticancer agents. Thirteen compounds were synthesized and screened against the A549 lung cancer cell line.

Following their defeat in the Texas Revolution of 1836, the Mexican Army disabled and buried cannons used in the defense of the Alamo. Rediscovered in 1852, 13 of these cannons have since journeyed through private collections and public exhibits before arriving at the Alamo. Among them is a bronze 4-pounder cannon, thought to have seen action during the battle itself.

As the world's largest producer of crude steel, China's iron and steel industry (ISI) is one of the major sources of both air pollutant and carbon dioxide (CO) emissions in the country. To better track emission patterns and assess the synergistic reduction potential under various policies during the 14 Five-Year Plan period, a high-frequency, smokestack-level and national emission database was developed that covers both air pollutants (i.e.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase 1B (DHOD1B) is one of several flavoproteins that utilize active half-sites. These enzymes have two flavin cofactors (FAD and FMN) that each interact with a specific reductant/oxidant substrate/product. Electrons gained at one-half-site must be transmitted to the other half-site and iron-sulfur centers between the flavin cofactors serve in this role.
