Article Abstract

The construction of the subway threatens the safety of adjacent architectural heritages. This study investigates the effect of subway foundation pit excavation and train-induced vibrations on adjacent architectural heritage through a case study of the City Square Station in Shaoxing. A three-dimensional numerical model was established by MIDAS GTS. During the excavation of the foundation pit, it is indicated that settlement was primarily concentrated within the pit, the maximum settlement is 2.06 mm. The pagoda exhibits a maximum global tilt of 0.0025° and a local tilt of 0.11‰, which are less than the threshold. However, within the deep soil influence zone near the pagoda, surface uplift occurred within 1-11.43 m from the foundation pit, followed by settlement. The maximum principal stress and shear stress primarily appeared on the eastern side of the foundation base. Under train-induced vibration, the maximum displacement and acceleration of the pagoda increase from the base to the spire due to the peak acceleration distribution, modal amplification effects, structural mass and stiffness distribution and dynamic inertial effects. To prevent the damage of the Dashan Pagoda, protective measures should be taken, such as optimization of pit support structures, vibration reduction and isolation, structural strengthening.

Background And Objective: Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) values and Total Diffusion Volume (TDV) from Whole-body diffusion-weighted MRI (WB-DWI) are recognised cancer imaging biomarkers. However, manual disease delineation for ADC and TDV measurements is unfeasible in clinical practice, demanding automation. As a first step, we propose an algorithm to generate fast and reproducible probability maps of the skeleton, adjacent internal organs (liver, spleen, urinary bladder, and kidneys), and spinal canal.

Optically active α-aminophosphonic acids are unique analogues of α-amino acids, and numerous synthetic methods have been developed. Herein, we present a highly diastereoselective α-azidation approach to the CAMDOL-derived phosphonates, enabling ready access to 27 diverse α-azidophosphonates with defined chirality in up to 85% yield and more than 99:1 dr. Late-stage transformations through the Staudinger reaction or click reaction efficiently delivered the related pharmacological α-aminophosphonic acids or the unique α-triazolylphosphonate derivative, respectively.

The hypertrophied column of Bertin (HCB) is a benign anatomical variant of the renal cortex that may mimic a neoplastic mass, particularly on ultrasound, potentially leading to unnecessary diagnostic or surgical interventions. We report the case of a nine-year-old girl in whom a renal lesion was incidentally discovered during follow-up imaging for a post-traumatic subcapsular hematoma. Renal ultrasound revealed an isoechoic mass in the mid-portion of the left kidney, extending into the renal sinus.

Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of vision loss in working-age adults. Despite the importance of early DR detection, only 60% of patients with diabetes receive recommended annual screenings due to limited eye care provider capacity. FDA-approved AI systems were developed to meet the growing demand for DR screening; however, high costs and specialized equipment limit accessibility.

The architecture of an ant colony's nest entrance modulates the regulation of activity in and out of the nest. This study considers how the architecture of nests of the desert harvester ant facilitates the regulation of foraging activity in an arid environment. Colonies must spend water, in water lost to evaporation when outside the nest, to obtain food and water.
