Article Abstract

The chemical composition and biological activities of Nepeta species growing in Armenia were investigated. The essential oil composition was analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, which revealed the presence of key sesquiterpenes such as copaene (12.59%) and β-elemene (3.77%) across all samples. Antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extracts was evaluated the DPPH radical scavenging assay, and total flavonoid content was determined, with from Mantash showing the highest total flavonoid content (1.17 ± 0.23 mg RE/g DW). The essential oil and ethanolic extract of demonstrated the highest antibacterial and antifungal activity. The lowest MIC values (0.025-0.05 mg/mL) and the largest inhibition zones (30 mm) were recorded against . Notably, both the essential oils and ethanolic extracts from all Nepeta samples exhibited significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. This study contributes to the discovery and utilisation of herbs of Nepeta as a valuable source of biologically active compounds with therapeutic potential. Although Nepeta mussinii and Nepeta sulphurea growing in Armenia do not belong to any of the three established chemotype categories, further the results of their pharmacognostic and phytochemical screening can be used for the standardisation of different chemotypes of Nepeta.

Glycocins are a growing family of ribosomally synthesized and posttranslationally modified peptides (RiPPs) that are O- and/or S-glycosylated. Using a sequence similarity network of putative glycosyltransferases, the thg biosynthetic gene cluster was identified in the genome of Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum. Heterologous expression in Escherichia coli showed that the glycosyltransferase (ThgS) encoded in the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) adds N-acetyl-glucosamine (GlcNAc) to Ser and Cys residues of ThgA.

A fused octapyrrolylanthracene, representing a nonplanar pyrrole-fused aza-nanographene with two deep gulf-edge regions, was readily synthesized and found to exhibit a ladder-shaped bent structure. Electrochemical studies revealed reversible multielectron oxidation up to four electrons. Stepwise oxidation with AgPF or I afforded a singlet diradical dication and a closed-shell aromatic tetracation.

The sluggish kinetics and diffusion of lithium polysulfide (LiPS) intermediates lead to the decline in the capacity and rate of high-energy lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Integrating adsorbents and electrocatalysts into the Li-S system is an effective strategy for suppressing the polysulfide shuttle and enhancing the redox kinetics of sulfur species. The disordered structure of the electrocatalysts exhibits significantly enhanced catalytic activity.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the critical need for safe and effective vaccines. In this study, subunit nanovaccine formulations were developed using the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles composed of poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG-PCL). Two surfactants, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and sodium cholate (SC), were evaluated during formulation via a modified water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) emulsion-solvent evaporation method.
