Article Abstract

A cardiac digital twin is a virtual replica of a patient's heart for screening, diagnosis, prognosis, risk assessment, and treatment planning of cardiovascular diseases. This requires an anatomically accurate patient-specific 3D structural representation of the heart, suitable for electro-mechanical simulations or study of disease mechanisms. However, generation of cardiac digital twins at scale is demanding and there are no public repositories of models across demographic groups. We describe an automatic open-source pipeline for creating patient-specific left and right ventricular meshes from cardiovascular magnetic resonance images, its application to a large cohort of [Formula: see text] participants from UK Biobank, and the construction of the most comprehensive cohort of adult heart models to date, comprising 1423 representative meshes across sex (male, female), body mass index (range: 16-42 kg/m2) and age (range: 49-80 years). Accurate classification of lung lesions at necropsy is crucial for guiding the diagnostic process and ensuring effective management of porcine respiratory diseases. Post-mortem inspection of the lungs during slaughter also provides valuable insights into disease occurrence, offering useful feedback on the efficacy of on-farm prevention and control strategies. However, manual assessment protocols may be impaired by high slaughtering speeds and low inter-rater agreement, which limits continuous data collection and hinders comparability.

Background: Despite successful recanalization after endovascular thrombectomy, more than half of patients with acute ischemic stroke with large-vessel occlusions experience an unsatisfactory outcome. Incomplete microvascular reperfusion may contribute to it, but its occurrence remains debated, partly due to clinical observations of hyperperfusion after recanalization. This study investigates the relationship between ischemia duration, infarct development, microclot presence, and cerebral perfusion in a swine model of focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion.

Constrictive pericarditis is a condition in which inflammation of the pericardium results in the loss of pericardial elasticity, leading to restricted ventricular filling. This case reports a male in his 50s who presented with symptoms of bilateral pedal oedema and dyspnoea. Examination revealed a raised jugular venous pulse, abdominal dullness and crepitations in both lungs.
