Article Abstract

Octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) is widely present in suspended particles and sediments, and some of its transformation products may pose potential threats to the environment and human health. In this work, the photodegradation of OCDD on suspended particles from the Pearl River was systematically investigated by conducting water quality parameter experiments, mass spectrometry analysis, theoretical calculations and toxicity prediction. The experimental results showed that neutral conditions were favorable for OCDD photodegradation, and the presence of K and Mg significantly promoted the reaction rate. The photodegradation process was driven by reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydroxyl radicals (·OH), singlet oxygen (O), and superoxide anions (·O), primarily generated from suspended particles, with ·O being the predominant species. A variety of degradation products, including hydroxylated, dechlorinated, and ether bond-cleaved products, were identified by GC-MS and LC-HRMS, from which the reaction pathways were proposed and corroborated by theoretical calculations. Toxicity assessments indicated that bioaccumulation potential and mutagenicity of OCDD degradation products were generally reduced, yet developmental toxicity remained. This study deepens our understanding on the phototransformation mechanisms of OCDD on suspended particles and offers insights into the natural photochemical behavior of hydrophobic compounds.

Objectives: To develop the orphan drug benznidazole (BNZ) in orally disintegrating tablets, for the neglected disease American Trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease) therapy. Although children are highly affected by this disease, there are no specific commercial pharmaceutical preparations for this age group in Argentina and in many other countries.

Methods: In the production process, co-milling in a ball mill was applied to enhance dissolution rates, followed by direct compression.

Liver cancer is the fourth most deadly cancer worldwide, but existing treatment options are insufficient, thus highlighting the urgent need for new therapeutic agents. Taxanes, known for their anticancer properties, provide a promising avenue for intervention. In this study, a tetracyclic taxane compound with antitumor activity (taxinine) was extracted and isolated from Taxus chinensis (T.

Objectives: The study aimed to combine instant-release and mini-tablet methodologies to develop novel orally disintegrating mini-tablets (ODMTs) for a frequently pescribed antibiotic, cefixime trihydrate (CT), in paediatric patients.

Materials And Methods: CT-loaded microcapsules were prepared using Eudragit EPO and Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose E50 by spray drying technique. The optimized microcapsules were mixed with co-processed ready-to-use tableting excipients, Ludiflash and Pearlitol 200SD, in different proportions and then compressed into ODMTs and evaluated.

Anaerobic self-forming dynamic membrane (AnSFDM) bioreactors have attracted increasing attention owing to their cost-effectiveness and lower carbon footprint. AnSFDM formation is the initial process of their operation and of pivotal importance for determining the basic characteristics of AnSFDMs. Nevertheless, the effect of operational parameters on the AnSFDM formation process has not been studied in a systematical and quantitative manner.

Environmentally friendly food packaging has emerged as a viable strategy to replace traditional plastic films. In this study, eugenol Pickering emulsion was constructed with konjac glucomannan (KGM) and tragacanth gum (GT) as stabilizers, and was introduced into the KGM/chitosan (CS) composite film by electrostatic action to develop a new type of active packaging film. Interfacial characterization revealed optimal emulsion stability at a 1:5 KGM-to-GT mass ratio.
