Purpose: To longitudinally describe the impact of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using a core set based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).
Patients And Methods: Between May 2021 and August 2022, 42 Brazilian patients with ALS (21 men/21 women, mean age 59.92 years, 23.8% with bulbar-onset ALS and 76.2% with spinal-onset ALS) were included. Patients diagnosed at least 6 months previously were assessed using 42 ICF categories at baseline and every six months thereafter for 16 months. The Friedman test was used to compare three time points, followed by Wilcoxon post hoc analyses. The Bonferroni method was applied. -values ≤0.05 were considered significant. Overall and subgroup (bulbar-onset/spinal-onset ALS) analyses were performed.
Results: Significant changes were found in 24/42 ICF categories. The most affected included respiratory muscle functions (b445), power of muscles of one limb (b7301), muscle power (b730) and gait pattern (b770). Early disabilities involved pain sensation (b280) and respiratory functions. Limitations in included transferring oneself (d420), hand and arm use (d445), dressing (d540), washing oneself (d510) and speaking (d330).
Conclusion: This ICF core set may help determine key facilitators and barriers to functioning and disability in ALS, guiding rehabilitation efforts.

Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) has been profoundly influential to neuroimaging as it has fostered rigorous, statistically grounded structure for model-based inferences that have led to mechanistic insights about the human brain over the past 30 years. The statistical constructs shared with the world through SPM have been instrumental for deriving meaning from neuroimaging data; however, they require simplifying assumptions which can provide results that, while statistically sound, may not accurately reflect the mechanisms of brain function. A platform that fosters the exploration of the rich and varying neuronal and physiologic underpinnings of the measured signals and their associations to behavior and physiologic measures needs a different set of tools.

The transition from traditional animal-based approaches and assessments to New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) marks a scientific revolution in regulatory toxicology, with the potential of enhancing human and environmental protection. However, implementing the effective use of NAMs in regulatory toxicology has proven to be challenging, and so far, efforts to facilitate this change frequently focus on singular technical, psychological or economic inhibitors. This article takes a system-thinking approach to these challenges, a holistic framework for describing interactive relationships between the components of a system of interest.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop an ICF core set for assessing stroke survivors in community-based rehabilitation settings in Hong Kong.
Material And Methods: A three-round Delphi process which involved 39 multidisciplinary experts in community-based rehabilitation services was conducted to reach consensus on a preliminary version of ICF core set for stroke survivors. The initial questionnaire included 130 second-level ICF categories while the panel was invited to suggest additional categories.
