Article Abstract

Case: A 6-year-old boy presented with a low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma located at the base of the thumb following an unplanned resection. A wide resection was performed, including removal of the proximal first metacarpal, trapezium, thenar muscles, and thumb tendons. Reconstruction was performed using a parascapular osteocutaneous flap to achieve stable thumb opposition position, combined with free tendon grafts to restore thumb interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joint motion. At 3 years postoperatively, the patient remains disease-free and can use his thumb without difficulty.

Conclusion: This 1-stage microsurgical functional reconstruction demonstrates satisfactory outcomes in cases of sarcoma involving the thumb base.

Background: While neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy shows promise for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), optimal regimen selection remains challenging. This study compares perioperative outcomes between camrelizumab- and tislelizumab-based neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy in ESCC.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 209 clinical stage II-IVA ESCC patients treated at Hebei Medical University Fourth Hospital (October 2020-December 2023) who underwent neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (camrelizumab, n=119; tislelizumab, n=90) followed by esophagectomy.

Robotic-assisted proctectomy (RAP) has been reportedly associated with lower rates of conversion to laparotomy than laparoscopy in several cohort studies. This st0udy aimed to assess the temporal trends in conversion from RAP to laparotomy stratified by patient and treatment-related factors. This retrospective observational study was undertaken to analyse the temporal trends in unplanned conversion from RAP to laparotomy.

Aims: The most appropriate management of patients who have undergone curettage for a suspected low-grade chondrosarcoma (CS), which has subsequently been found to be of grade 2, remains unknown. We aimed to assess whether these patients have an increased risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis if followed up over time, compared to those who undergo further treatment soon after the diagnosis has been established.

Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken which included 71 patients treated between January 2010 and December 2022 by intralesional curettage for a supposed low-grade CS, but who subsequently proved to have a histological grade 2 CS.

Objective: Pituitary adenomas (PAs) are common intracranial neoplasms for which definitive treatment is generally transsphenoidal resection depending on patient and tumor characteristics. Recent studies have demonstrated that patients with other intracranial tumors treated at high-volume centers are more likely to undergo surgery, receive adjuvant therapy, and experience improved surgical outcomes. However, PAs have yet to be studied in this context.

IntroductionIndocyanine green (ICG) near-infrared visualization (NIR) is used in colorectal surgery to evaluate anastomotic limb perfusion and aid sentinel lymph node harvest in oncologic surgeries. Proponents of ICG-NIR claim improved anastomotic and oncologic outcomes, but no large-scale studies are reported. This study aims to evaluate the effect of ICG-NIR on anastomotic and oncologic outcomes after colorectal surgeries on a nationwide scale.
