Article Abstract

As concerns about sugar-sweetened beverages are increasing, interest in natural sweeteners with zero calories is also growing. This study explores the health impacts of rebaudioside D and M, emerging sugar substitutes, compared to traditional alternatives and stevioside. In mouse models, we investigated the effects of rebaudioside D and M on obesity, liver health, thermogenic adipocytes, skeletal muscle, and gut microbiota. Results show no weight gain or exacerbation of obesity, no promotion of hepatic steatosis, no impairment of brown adipose tissue function and no changes in skeletal muscle metabolic proteins with either rebaudioside. Importantly, both of these sugar substitutes positively influence gut microbiota without adverse metabolic effects, suggesting their potential as safe sugar alternatives.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of some environment- and animal-based factors, such as body condition score (BCS) on 15-20 days before parturition, parity, and calving season on colostrum dry matter (DM), fat, solids-nonfat (SNF), protein, and lactose contents as well as colostrum and calf's serum immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA, and IgM), IGF-1, and lactoferrin concentrations in buffaloes. Therefore, the components of colostrum (at the first milking) and calf serum samples (at 24-48 h and 28 days after birth) from 86 Anatolian buffalo cows were analyzed by an infrared milk analyzer and ELISA test. The high BCS enhanced colostrum DM, fat, and IgG content; calf serum IgG concentration at 24-48 h, and lactoferrin at 28 days compared to low BCS.

Tea is consumed worldwide, and it is highly appreciated by consumers as a functional, healthy, and natural drink. The objectives of this research were to evaluate (1) the storage stability and (2) the consumption effect on biomarkers of oxidative stress of an antioxidant tea prepared from purple corn cob and stevia (AOxTea). The AOxTea bags were subjected to storage environments of 75 or 85 % of relative humidity at 30, 40 and 50 °C for up to 19 days.
