Hydration of proton is the key to understand the acid-base chemistry and biochemical processes, for which the Zundel and Eigen cations have been recognized as the foundation. However, their dominance remains contentious due to the challenge of attributing the infrared signature at ~1750 cm, stemming from the theoretical dilemma of balancing structural diversity and solvent fluctuations. Herein, we circumvent this obstacle by devising an integrated approach for computing frequency-specific vibrational vectors via inverse Fourier transform of the vibrational density of states. When applied to aqueous acid, it unveils an additional "Intermediate" configuration, linked to the aforementioned spectral signature, which exhibits a higher population (44%) and longer lifetime (51 fs), compared to Zundel-like (28%, 25 fs) and Eigen-like (28%, 36 fs), benefitting from the local electric field induced by surrounding solvent molecules.

Background: Sleep quality has emerged as a critical public health concern, yet our understanding of how multiple determinants interact to influence sleep outcomes remains limited. This study employed partial correlation network analysis to examine the hierarchical structure of sleep quality determinants among Chinese adults.
Methods: We investigated the interrelationships among nine key factors: daily activity rhythm, social interaction frequency, work-life balance, light exposure, physical activity level, time control perception, shift work, weekend catch-up sleep, and sleep quality using the extended Bayesian Information Criterion (EBIC) glasso model.

Breast cancer, a leading cause of mortality, exhibits significant heterogeneity across molecular subtypes, with tumor hypoxia contributing to poor therapeutic outcomes. The present study investigates the role of ZMYND8, a hypoxia-responsive epigenetic factor, in regulating carbohydrate metabolism in concert with HIF1α in breast cancer. In adherent cells as well as in 3D MCTS, ZMYND8 expression is elevated under hypoxic conditions.

A precise modulation of heterogeneous catalysts in structural and surface properties promises the development of more sustainable advanced oxidation water purification technologies. However, the poor catalyst stability due to covering of surface-active sites by oxidation intermediates remains a key bottleneck to their practical applications. Herein we propose a simple defect-induced in-situ single-atom anchoring strategy to overcome this challenge by creating unique asymmetric active-sites on the catalyst surface.

The polarization switching pathway in HfZrO-based ferroelectric thin film is still not well clarified and agreed, limiting the fundamental physical understanding and performance engineering. The key question lies in clarifying the transient intermediate state during the polarization switching of orthorhombic phase. In this work, by designing the ferroelectric and dielectric stacks, we theoretically and experimentally demonstrate a polarization switching pathway through an orthorhombic-tetragonal-orthorhombic phase transition in ferroelectric HfZrO where the non-polar tetragonal phase is metastable.
