Purpose: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in neonates and infants presents technical challenges and is still unfamiliar to many paediatrics surgeons. This study aims to identify currently available simulators for neonatal/infant MIS training, to assess their validity, level of evidence, and related recommendations.
Methods: The review followed PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420250581050). Electronic search limited to English articles was performed through PubMed/MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Web of Science and Cochrane Database from January 2010 to June 2024.
Results: Out of 1084 identified records, 72 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analysed across general, gastrointestinal, thoracic, and urological MIS specialties. Recent efforts have led to the development of 3D-printed, animal-based, and hybrid models several of which showed high fidelity, skill differentiation, and educational value. Despite promising results, no universal MIS training model exists for neonate/infant patients, highlighting the need for structured, proficiency-based curricula. Overall, studies demonstrated moderate levels of evidence and recommendation, supporting integration of cost-effective simulation into paediatrics MIS training CONCLUSION: This systematic review highlights the need for validated, standardized simulation models and proficiency-based curricula to optimize neonate and infant MIS training and guide future research toward improving model fidelity, accessibility, and long-term educational outcomes.

Background: Management of the capsulotomy at termination of hip arthroscopic procedures in the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) is debated. Clinical outcomes in favor of capsular closure were demonstrated in a retrospective study; nonetheless, this finding could not be confirmed in a recent randomized, controlled trial comparing capsular closure with unrepaired capsulotomy.
Purpose/hypothesis: This randomized, controlled multicenter trial aimed to evaluate the effect of capsular closure on subjective postoperative outcomes and revision rates in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for FAIS.

Red-pigmented snow algae are cold-adapted (including cryophilic) photosynthetic microbes commonly found in polar and alpine snowpacks worldwide, but their dispersal across isolated cryospheres remains poorly understood. We report the occurrence of snow algae on Maunakea, Hawai'i, the most isolated cryosphere in the world, during an unusually prolonged summer snow retention event in 2023 associated with La Niña conditions. Red-pigmented algal cells were observed in snow samples collected during this event.

Objective: To identify significant predictors and construct a validated nomogram for predicting post-stroke cognitive impairment no dementia (PSCIND) risk among first-ever mild ischemic stroke (MIS) patients.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 242 first-ever MIS patients categorized into normal cognitive ( = 137) and PSCIND ( = 105) groups. Comprehensive data encompassing demographic characteristics, laboratory parameters, cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) imaging markers, neuropsychological assessments, and ischemic stroke lesion characteristics were collected.

Energy metabolism manipulation strategy, enhancing fat metabolism while reducing the dependence on glucose, is beneficial to improve exercise performance. The multi-ingredient supplements (MIS) mixed with valine, isoleucine, leucine, β-alanine, creatine, L-carnitine, quercetin, and betaine were found to be able to improve the endurance performance of mice, which was associated with a shift of energy substrates from glucose to fatty acids. Thus, we hypothesized that the MIS regulating lipid metabolism contributes to enhancing exercise endurance in mice.

Introduction: Evolutionary hypotheses propose that fetuses show "predictive adaptive" responses to the prenatal environment based on likely continuity with the postnatal environment, and males and females have different adaptive priorities. Female adaptations appear to implicate hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis mechanisms moderated by early tactile stimulation. Based on these hypotheses we predict that lack of prenatal-postnatal environmental continuity (mismatch), will be associated with poorer outcomes in females, an effect that will be ameliorated by tactile stimulation.
