Venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk is significantly higher for hospitalized trauma patients. Sequential compression devices (SCDs) serve as standard mechanical prophylaxis for VTE; however, compliance remains suboptimal. We examined frequency of SCD usage and barriers to utilization. This prospective cohort study enrolled 119 trauma patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center between June 2024 and July 2024. Patients were observed for three days or until discharge. Patient education on SCDs was provided by investigators on observation day 1, and utilization was tracked. Among 119 patients, ICU usage (77.5%-100%) was significantly higher than PCU/Med Surg (42.0%-45.3%) (p<0.001). Non-adherence initially stemmed from malfunctioning or absent equipment (p<0.001) but later shifted to the underutilization of functioning SCDs (p<0.001). Patients without chemical prophylaxis had higher odds of using SCDs (p=0.029). Non-ICU settings in particular faced equipment and monitoring challenges, which impaired utilization. Improving equipment availability, staff training, and patient education could enhance SCD prophylaxis.

Background: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest management prioritises effective treatment, with high-quality chest compressions and timely defibrillation being essential. While current European Resuscitation Council guidelines recommend sternal-apical defibrillator pad placement, alternative positions such as anterior-posterior (AP) are gaining interest. The integration of secondary AP pad placement with mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices (mCPR) remains underexplored.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) represent a prevalent complication of diabetes, with a lifetime risk ranging from 15% to 25% among diabetic patients. Research indicates that anticoagulation plays a crucial role in the management of newly diagnosed cases of diabetic lower extremity atherosclerotic obliterative disease. However, in the present case, the patient developed dry gangrene in both toes after receiving vasodilator drugs during an emergency intervention for sudden aortic dissection.

Background: Gender inequalities in care of women with cardiopulmonary arrest may be due to lack of training with manikins representing the female thorax. Incorporating this feature in basic life support (BLS) training would support a more equitable and effective response.
Aim: To evaluate the impact of using female torso mannikins in BLS training for nursing students.

Malignant obstructive jaundice (MOJ) due to tumor compression or invasion of the bile duct carries a grave prognosis. We report a case of a 54-year-old female patient (height: 160 cm, weight: 55 kg, BMI: 21.5 kg/m², ECOG performance status: 1, with type 2 diabetes mellitus) advanced pancreatic head cancer causing MOJ, managed with a multidisciplinary approach.

The troublesome model size and quadratic computational complexity associated with token quantity pose significant deployment challenges for Vision Transformers (ViTs) in practical applications. Despite recent advancements in model pruning and token reduction techniques speed up the inference speed of ViTs, these approaches either adopt a fixed sparsity ratio or overlook the meaningful interplay between architectural optimization and token selection. Consequently, this static and single-dimension compression often leads to pronounced accuracy degradation under aggressive compression rates, as they fail to fully explore redundancies across these two orthogonal dimensions.
