Background: Although diagnosis acceptance is frequently discussed in psychiatric practice and research, both components - psychiatric diagnoses and the act of accepting them - are inherently unclear.

Aims: The present study aimed to evaluate how well existing theoretical concepts of diagnosis acceptance align with patient experiences and to explore themes related to diagnosis acceptance.

Method: An iterative thematic analysis was conducted on 30 illness narratives from (former) psychiatric patients.

Background And Purpose: Concerns have been raised about the cross-cultural applicability of Western-centric models of world assumptions, questioning their universality, patterns and role when facing trauma. Within a trauma-focused research project in Sierra Leone, this sub-study examines these issues in the local context.

Methods: We conducted a qualitatively driven mixed methods study (embedded design) from an emic-etic perspective.

Approximating the living.

Is a herd of wildebeest better thought of as a series of individual animals, each with its own glorious and unmanageable volition, or as a field of moving arrows? Are the morphogen gradients that set up the coordinate systems for embryonic anterior-posterior patterning a smooth and continuous concentration field or instead a chaotic collection of protein molecules each jiggling about in the haphazard way first described by Robert Brown in his microscopical observations of pollen? Is water, the great liquid ether of the living world, a collection of discrete molecules or instead a perfectly continuous medium with a density of ≈1000 kg/m? In this article, I will argue that these questions pose a false dichotomy since there are many different and powerful representations of the world around us. Different representations suit us differently at different times and it is often useful to be able to hold these seemingly contradictory notions in our heads simultaneously. Indeed, mathematics is not only the language of representation, but often is also the engine of reconciliation of such disparate views.

Steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs), such as spironolactone and eplerenone, have demonstrated substantial benefits in randomized controlled trials for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. However, their effectiveness in heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction remains uncertain, and the implementation of this class has remained low, in part due to its side effects and tolerability profile. Emerging therapies that target the mineralocorticoid receptor and/or the production of aldosterone may offer alternative strategies to treat the aldosterone-mineralocorticoid receptor axis.

This institutional ethnographic (IE) study of a little-known Ontario-based mad history recounts how, in the 1980s and 1990s, ex-mental patients established a number of social enterprises (also known as consumer/survivor businesses), secured government funding and through these sites, got politically active around issues that impacted their lives. This research poses critical sociological questions about the circulation of activist knowledge-practices and the formation of these businesses as sites of community organizing. Methodologically, IE offers an approach through which I began from the experiences of ex-mental patients while aiming to explore how their activist practices are coordinated trans-locally.
