Multi-carbazole-based benzonitrile systems are efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, they suffer from low PLQY due to the large dihedral angle arising from steric crowding. Addressing this challenge, we demonstrate a potent strategy to engineer steric crowding in this work. To achieve our goal, we have designed three luminogens, namely, CzPHCN, tCzPHCN and Cz2CzPHCN based on phenanthrene-9,10-dicarbonitrile (PHCN), as an acceptor core to minimize the steric hindrance between the donor groups. Among the three luminogens, CzPHCN exhibits a maximum PLQY of 86% and the highest RISC rate of 3.5 × 10 s, the underlying cause being the least dihedral angle of 45.72° and suppressed intermolecular interaction due to the presence of the bulky -butyl group. Interestingly, our QM/MM calculations and experimental evidence suggest that the RISC process of both CzPHCN and tCzPHCN takes place a hot exciton channel. Unlocking a new realm of applications, the unique non-centrosymmetric space group (2) of CzPHCN offers excellent SHG with a χ value of 0.21 pm V at 1320 nm. In addition to this, the molecule depicts good ferroelectric ( = 0.32 μC cm), piezoelectric energy harvesting ( = 2.8 V) and two-photon absorption properties.

The study of the self-assembly of surfactants in aqueous solutions, though a traditional field, remains fascinating and full of novelty. In this article, the anionic perfluorodecanoic acid surfactant (PFA) is separately complexed with three hydroxyalkylamines (monoethanolamine (MEA), diethylamine (DEA), and triethanolamine (TEA)) in aqueous solutions. The transformation of aggregate morphologies from spherical unilamellar to nanotubes and then to spherical bilamellar is observed at room temperature, which is confirmed by cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM).

Natural products have emerged as a vital source of active ingredients in medicine, food, and cosmetics due to their unique biological activities, safety profiles, and sustainability. However, most bioactive compounds in natural products are intensely bitter, limiting their use in pharmaceuticals and foods. The bitter taste attributes vary markedly among different compound classes, predominantly due to their structural characteristics.

Over the past few years, alkali and alkaline earth metals have emerged as alternative catalysts to transition metal organometallics to catalyze the hydroboration of unsaturated compounds. A highly selective and cost-effective lithium-catalyzed method for the synthesis of an organoborane has been established based on the addition of a B-H bond to an unsaturated bond (polarized or unpolarized) using pinacolborane (HBPin). In the present work, the neosilyllithium-catalyzed hydroboration of nitriles, aldehydes, and esters has been investigated using high-level DLPNO-CCSD(T) calculations to unravel the mechanistic pathways and substrate-dependent reactivity.

Mycoplasma pneumonia, a primary aetiological agent of atypical pneumonia, necessitates the implementation of rapid point-of-care diagnostics. Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIAs) hold promise for point-of-care testing (POCT), yet their sensitivity levels are frequently constrained by probe affinity and matrix interference. We introduce an orientational labelling strategy that employs magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) functionalized with staphylococcal protein A (SPA) to simultaneously enhance antibody orientation and facilitate magnetic enrichment.

A dual-cavity lasing platform is reported in which thioflavin T (ThT), a rotor-sensitive molecular probe, is employed to map molecular-crowding effects within starch granules via coupled Fabry-Perot (FP) and whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonances. In this architecture, global standing-wave feedback is furnished by a planar FP cavity, while size-tunable WGMs are supported by ThT-coated starch granules. Granules were sorted into five diameter classes (<20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-60, and >60 μm), and lasing thresholds alongside fluorescence lifetimes were determined.
