Metal carbonyl clusters, which can be seen as monodispersed and atomically defined nanoparticles stabilized by CO ligands, were used to prepare Ru-based catalysts with tuned basic properties to conduct the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) aerobic oxidation to produce 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) in base-free conditions. The controlled decomposition of the carbonyl cluster [HRu(CO)], a methodology not yet applied to Ru catalysts for this reaction, on different supports focusing on controlling and tuning the basic properties of support allowed the formation of small Ru nanoparticles with a mean diameter of around 1 nm. The catalytic systems obtained resulted in more activity in the HMF oxidation than those prepared through a more common salt-impregnation technique, and the deposition of Ru nanoparticles on materials with basic functionalities has allowed avoiding the use of basic solutions in the reaction. The characterization by CO-TPD of Mg(Al)O catalysts obtained from decomposition of layered double hydroxide hydrotalcites with different composition and activation has allowed disclosure of an important correlation between the selectivity of FDCA and the fraction of weak basic sites, which is decreased by the calcination treatment at increased temperature.

Reducing agents with phosphorus-hydrogen bond, such as sodium hypophosphite, phosphite, and hypophosphorous acid are commercially available in bulk amounts, however, their usage is understudied in organic processes. While NaHPO has proved to be an efficient four-electron reductant in the catalyst-free reductive amination, the influence of cation in hypophosphite salt has not been studied yet. This issue is a fundamentally important factor.

In this paper, we investigated the thermal, dynamical, and structural properties, as well as association patterns, in 3-phenyl-1-propanol (3P1Pol) and 3-phenyl-1-propanal (3P1Pal), with special attention paid to the latter compound. Both systems turned out to be good glass formers, differing by 17 K in the glass transition temperature, which indicated a strong change in the self-assembly pattern. This supposition was further confirmed by the analysis of dielectric spectra, where, apart from the α-relaxation, also a unique Debye (D)-mode, being a fingerprint of the self-association, characterized by different dynamical properties (dielectric strength, timescale separation from the α-process), was detected in both samples.

Infrared (IR) spectroscopic imaging combines the molecular specificity of vibrational spectroscopy with imaging capabilities of microscopy, potentially allowing for simultaneous quantitative observations of drugs and cellular response. However, accurately quantifying drug concentration within changing cells is complicated by the overlap between exogenous molecules' and native cellular spectra. Here, we address this challenge by developing a derivative of the widely used chemotherapeutic doxorubicin as a spectral bioprobe (DOX-IR) using a strongly absorbing metal-carbonyl moiety [(Cp)Fe(CO)].

Sequential deposition technique is widely used to fabricate perovskite films with large grain size in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Residual lead halide (PbI) in the perovskite film tends to be decomposed into metallic lead (Pb) under long-term heating or light soaking. Here, a chiral levetiracetam (LEV) dopant containing α-amide and pyrrolidone groups is introduced into the PbI precursor solution.

The title complex, [Ca(NO)(CHNO)(HO)], crystallizes with an eight-coordinate Ca ion in a distorted trigonal-dodeca-hedral coordination environment. The metal ion is coordinated to two nicotinamide ligands their carbonyl O atoms, two bidentate nitrate anions and two water mol-ecules. The nicotinamide ligands adopt a nearly geometry, while the nitrate anions and aqua ligands are arranged in a pseudo- fashion.
