This study included 24 isolates of the species complex from patients in the Brazilian Amazon between 2021 and 2024. These isolates were identified by sequencing as (54.2%), sensu stricto (29.2%), var. (12.5%), and (4.2%). The finding of represents the first case reported in Brazil. Haplotype and phylogenetic analysis of these species, along with other isolates from Brazil, revealed low intraspecific genetic diversity. Resistance to at least one antifungal was observed in 83.3% of isolates, with multidrug resistance in 58.3%, including one isolate resistant to all tested antifungals. The isolates demonstrated active biofilm production, lytic enzyme activity, and thermotolerance. Notably, one isolate exhibited tolerance to 42 °C, a phenotype not previously described. It is crucial for Brazil and other countries to recognize the emergence of these species as a public health threat and to take proactive measures to prevent outbreaks.

Background: Mixed-species, mixed-strain plasmodia infections are known to occur in humans in malaria endemic areas. It may be surprising that to date, the extent of this complexity has not been systematically explored in high-burden countries of sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the reservoir of asymptomatic infections in all ages, which sustains transmission.

The knee joint plays a critical role in tetrapod locomotion, yet its developmental trajectories and anatomical diversity remain underexplored outside of model taxa. Here, we examine knee joint development in three representative reptilian lineages, Phrynops hilarii (Testudines), Caiman latirostris (Crocodylia), and Columba livia (Aves), and compare them with adult knee morphology in two squamate species, Cercosaura parkerii and Hemidactylus mabouia. Using histological series spanning key developmental stages, we document patterns of ossification, meniscus formation, cartilage composition, and sesamoid presence.
