Uncontrolled hemorrhages pose severe threats to life, especially in the case of deep cavity wounds. To address these challenges, we developed an injectable and super-expandable all-cellulose based sponge by dual-crosslinking of needle-leaf pulp fiber (Pulp) with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) through a double pore generation strategy. When addressing severe hemorrhage, Pulp-CMC sponge with high porosity can rapidly expand to ∼3900 % of itself in height, applying extra physical pressure to the wounds to stop bleeding, which is highest expansion ratio that ever reported in hemostasis materials. Moreover, the carboxyl groups in CMC can bind with Fe ions in blood, thereby providing a chemical hemostatic effect. In pig femoral artery bleeding and stab wound models, the Pulp-CMC5 sponge reduced bleeding volume by 81 % and 86 %, compared with gauze, respectively. When buried in soil, the sponge can fully degrade within 30 days. The benign strategy retains the biochemical property of biomass to large extent, and the outstanding performance of these sponges provides an alternative "green" hemostasis material for managing uncontrollable bleeding in clinical applications.

Refractory cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a severe complication following umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT). Antiviral agents, the standard first-line therapy, are limited by toxicity and resistance without robust T-cell immunity. We evaluated third-party donor (TPD)-derived CMV-specific T cells (CMVSTs) as a treatment option.

Epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV) causes severe disease in ruminants. We assessed the pathogenicity of the Chinese EHDV-7 isolate YN09 in mice lacking the type I interferon receptor and in sheep. In mice, YN09 infection resulted in 100% mortality, with histopathological lesions, viral replication, and immunoreactivity in multiple organs.

Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an astrocytic marker that can be assessed in blood using single molecule array technology. Recent studies suggest that individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have suppressed circulating levels of this CNS biomarker. This study examined the hypothesis that PTSD and plasma GFAP levels share common genetic and epigenetic pathways.

The Stanley Peart Essay Competition is an annual event run by the British and Irish Hypertension Society to encourage Early Career Researchers to continue the ethos of Sir Stanley Peart. Sir Stanley Peart was a clinician and clinical researcher who made a major contribution to our understanding of blood pressure regulation. He was the first to demonstrate the release of noradrenaline in response to sympathetic nerve stimulation.

Individuals with progressive liver failure risk dying without liver transplantation. However, our understanding of why regenerative responses are disrupted in failing livers is limited. Here, we perform multiomic profiling of healthy and diseased human livers using bulk and single-nucleus RNA- and ATAC-seq.
