Surface nanoscale axial photonics (SNAP) technology has demonstrated the record subangstrom fabrication precision of optical microresonators and resonant photonic circuits at the optical fiber surface. However, fabrication errors arising from fluctuations of temperature, inscription parameters, alignment inconsistencies, and other factors did not allow researchers to achieve the subangstrom precision without sophisticated post-processing. Here, we show that the key fabrication method of SNAP structures-CO laser beam optical fiber annealing-suffers from significant fiber displacements, which may introduce a few percent fabrication errors. To suppress the effects of misalignment, we develop a dynamic fabrication method employing a translating beam exposure and demonstrate its excellent precision. An effective fiber radius variation of ∼10 nm is introduced with an error of ∼0.1 Å. We suggest that the remaining fabrication errors can be attributed to laser power fluctuations.

Bacterial infection in the injured skin may threaten the wound repair and skin regeneration owing to aggravated inflammation. The multifunctional dressings with persistent antibacterial activity and improved anti-inflammatory capability are urgently required. Herein, a type of heterogeneous zinc/catechol-derived resin microspheres (Zn/CFRs) composed of zinc ions (Zn) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles was developed to impart the methacrylamide chitosan (CSMA)-oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA) hydrogel with a persistent Zn release behavior.

Carbon fiber nanotip electrodes (CFNEs) are crucial for electrochemical recordings of neurotransmission release in confined spaces, such as synapses and intracellular measurements. However, fabricating CFNEs with small surface area to minimize noise remains challenging due to inconsistent tip size control, low reproducibility, and low fabrication success rate. Here, we present a reliable, user-friendly method with high reproducibility and success rate for precise CFNE fabrication using microscopy-guided electrochemical etching of cylindrical carbon fiber microelectrodes in a potassium hydroxide droplet.

Silver nanoprisms (AgNPrs) are promising candidates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) due to their strong localized surface plasmon resonance and sharp tip geometry. In this study, AgNPrs were synthesized through a photochemical method by irradiating spherical silver nanoparticle seeds with 10 W green light-emitting diodes (LEDs; 520 ± 20 nm) for various periods of time up to 72 h. The growth mechanism was investigated through ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy analyses, confirming the gradual transformation of spherical seeds into AgNPrs.

Nanoparticles in their pure colloidal form synthesized by laser-assisted processes such as laser ablation/fragmentation/irradiation/melting in liquids have attained much interest from the scientific community because of their specialties like facile synthesis, ultra-high purity, biocompatibility, colloidal stability in addition to other benefits like tunable size and morphology, crystalline phases, new compounds and alloys, and defect engineering. These nanocolloids are useful for fabricating different devices mainly with applications in optoelectronics, catalysis, sensors, photodetectors, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates, and solar cells. In this review article, we describe different methods of nanocolloidal synthesis using laser-assisted processes and corresponding thin film fabrication methods, particularly those utilized for device fabrication and characterization.

Introduction: The conventional pin and tension band wiring (TBW) technique remains the standard for fixation, but is frequently associated with complications such as wire breakage, loosening, and delayed healing in patellar fracture. Locking plate fixation has demonstrated superior biomechanical stability in human studies. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical performance of locking plate fixation versus TBW in canine transverse patellar fractures and to evaluate the influence of plate design on fixation strength.
