ZDRF-8 is a transgenic maize event created via -mediated transformation for insect resistance and glyphosate tolerance by expressing , , and . A Southern blot analysis suggested that it is a single-copy T-DNA insertion event. The flanking genomic sequences of the T-DNA insertion suggested that its T-DNA was inserted at the terminal region of the long arm of chromosome 7 without interrupting any known or predicted genes. Event-specific PCRs based on the flanking sequence were able to detect this event specifically. Laboratory bioassays and field trials of multiple generations demonstrated that ZDRF-8 is highly active against major corn pests in China, including Asian corn borers (ACB, ), cotton bollworms (CBW, ), and oriental armyworm (OAW, ), and meanwhile confers glyphosate tolerance up to two times the recommended dose. The expression of the transgenes and the efficacy of insect resistance and glyphosate tolerance were stable over more than 10 generations. ZDRF-8 has been granted with a safety certificate in China, and its commercial release is expected in the coming years.

Background: Stored-product insects (Sitophilus spp., Plodia interpunctella, Sitotroga cerealella) drive substantial postharvest losses and increasingly resist synthetic fumigants. Valeriana wallichii roots yield volatile oils rich in short-chain acids and sesquiterpenes.

Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), including hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB), are highly toxic and persistent pollutants that pose significant ecological and human health risks. Their chemical stability makes them particularly resistant to biodegradation. In this study, we isolated and characterized Cupriavidus nantongensis HB4B5, a novel aerobic bacterium capable of efficiently degrading HCB and PCNB, without the accumulation of toxic intermediates.

Plant roots are colonised by diverse communities of microorganisms that can affect plant growth and enhance plant resistance to (a) biotic stresses. We investigated the role of the indigenous soil microbiome in the resistance of tomato to the invasive sap-sucking insect Prodiplosis longifila (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). Native and agricultural soils were sampled from the Andes in Southern Ecuador and tested, in greenhouse bioassays, for leaf tissue damage caused by P.

Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) overcomes all known tomato resistance genes, including the durable Tm-2, posing a serious threat to global tomato production. Here, we employed in vitro random mutagenesis to evolve the Tm-2 leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain and screened ∼8,000 variants for gain-of-function mutants capable of recognizing the ToBRFV movement protein (MP) and triggering hypersensitive cell death. We identified five such mutants.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an important herbivorous pest of bottle gourd. We studied the development, reproduction and life table parameters of H. armigera to assess the resistance of eight bottle gourd cultivars, and performed biochemical analysis when H.
