Vegetative development in regions where glaciers retreated due to global warming forces the mercury (Hg) cycle in the cryosphere. This study depicts the fate of Hg in a glacier-retreated chronosequence over the last 250 years recorded by signals of stable Hg isotopes. Results show that the Hg storage in surface soil increases by 3.2 times over 250 years after the glacier retreated. 53 ± 11% of Hg in grass shoots is from the uptake of atmospheric Hg and 47 ± 11%, from the uptake of soil Hg. Atmospheric Hg is the primary source of surface soil Hg (54 ± 13%), followed by atmospheric Hg (40 ± 10%) and geogenic Hg. The Hg accumulation in soils increased by a factor of 5 at an accelerating rate from the 1870s to 2010s. The Hg release flux from melting glaciers is 3.51 ± 0.01 μg m yr. The highly positive ΔHg (1.03 ± 0.49‰) in precipitation due to photoreduction of Hg in water droplets causes all samples in ecosystems to have positive ΔHg values. Isotopic evidence suggests that photolytic and abiotic dark reduction processes have driven Hg re-emission from glacier and underlying soil after melting. The accelerated Hg release from melting glaciers and soil Hg accumulation caused by global warming alter Hg cycling in the cryosphere.

Background: Scrub typhus (ST), also known as tsutsugamushi disease, is a common febrile vector-borne illness in South Korea, transmitted by trombiculid mites infected with Orientia tsutsugamushi, with rodents serving as the main hosts. Although vector-borne diseases like ST require both a One Health approach and a spatiotemporal perspective to fully understand their complex dynamics, previous studies have often lacked integrated analyses that simultaneously address disease dynamics, vectors, and environmental shifts.
Objective: We aimed to explore spatiotemporal trends, high-risk areas, and risk factors of ST by simultaneously incorporating host and environmental information.

The objective of this study was to analyze the characteristics of avoidable mortality in the population aged five to 69 years living in the city of Pelotas/RS, comparing it with the rest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2000 to 2021. An ecological study was conducted analyzing avoidable mortality coefficients according to sex and age, from 2000 to 2021. The data source was the Mortality Information System, and the trend analysis was performed using Prais-Winsten regression, with standardization of coefficients.

We investigated the impact of short-term dietary nitrate supplementation on sympathetic neural responses to isometric exercise in postmenopausal women. Ten healthy women aged 64±2 (SD) years participated in this randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study. All participants underwent two-week beetroot juice (BRJ: 800 mg nitrate/day) and placebo (nitrate-depleted BRJ) interventions with ≥14 days of wash-out.

Importance: Survivors of critical illness often have ongoing issues that affect functioning, including driving ability.
Objective: To examine whether intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is independently associated with long-term changes in driving behaviors.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This multicenter, longitudinal cohort study included 151 survivors of critical illness residing within 200 miles of Nashville, Tennessee.

Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of DIMS (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) in comparison to control group (CTRL) in a wide age group of European progressive myopes (6-26 years).
Methods: In this prospective, non-randomised observational study, 78 myopes with progression myopia to -0.25 to -8.
