Article Abstract

Single-wavelength endoscopy (SWE) has shown promising results in assessing histological disease activity in ulcerative colitis. Our objective was to validate the real-time performance of a bedside prototype of SWE computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) as proof of concept.A bedside module for real-time use evaluated histological disease activity when endoscopy was performed in the rectum and sigmoid based on white-light endoscopy and SWE (410 nm monochromatic light). Biopsies were taken for reference and scored using the Geboes score (GBS). SWE-CAD displayed a blue or red indicator, corresponding to histological remission or non-remission, respectively. Simultaneous scoring using the Mayo Endoscopic Score was performed by the endoscopist. In 36 patients, histological disease activity was automatically scored using SWE-CAD. At the section level, SWE-CAD showed an accuracy of 96.4%, sensitivity of 96.1%, and specificity of 85.5%. When differentiating disease activity into mild, moderate, and severe, accuracy was 97.7%, 62.8%, and 95.0%, respectively. At the per-patient level, overall diagnostic accuracy remained high at 94.4%, with only 2/36 underestimations compared with GBS.A novel SWE-CAD system demonstrated clinical accuracy of 94.4% at the per-patient level, potentially aiding physicians in interpreting subtle endoscopic abnormalities and paving the way to more individualized patient management.

Purpose: Urosepsis, a condition caused by a urinary tract infection spreading to the bloodstream, has a complex epigenetic behavior in its cellular and molecular pathophysiology. The objective of this study was to identify relevant genes and signaling pathways in adult urosepsis through a bioinformatic analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

Materials And Methods: In this in-silico study, the GSE69528 dataset, containing 138 total RNA blood samples from patients with sepsis and uninfected controls, was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Chrysin Attenuates Myocardial Cell Apoptosis in Mice.

Myocardial infarction (MI), induced by ischemia and hypoxia of the coronary arteries, presents as myocardial necrosis. Patients often experience intense, prolonged retrosternal pain that is unrelieved by rest or nitrate therapy and is frequently associated with high blood myocardial enzyme levels. Physical effort may exacerbate this anxiety, increasing the likelihood of life-threatening consequences such as arrhythmias, shock, or cardiac failure.

Estimating Health State Utilities for IDH-Mutant Diffuse Glioma.

Background: Isocitrate dehydrogenase-mutant (mIDH) gliomas are malignant central nervous system tumours. After initial resection, patients with mIDH gliomas with favourable prognosis may live without receiving oncologic treatment for years, but ultimately patients will experience recurrence and require radio- and/or chemotherapy (RT/CT). Cost-utility analyses (CUA) can explore the value of treatments that delay recurrence and initiation of RT/CT.

It has become evident from decades of clinical trials that multimodal therapeutic approaches with focus on cell intrinsic and microenvironmental cues are needed to improve understanding and treat the rare, inoperable, and ultimately fatal diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), now categorized as a diffuse midline glioma. In this study we report the development and characterization of an in vitro system utilizing 3D Tumor Tissue Analogs (TTA), designed to replicate the intricate DIPG microenvironment. The innate ability of fluorescently labeled human brain endothelial cells, microglia, and patient-derived DIPG cell lines to self-assemble has been exploited to generate multicellular 3D TTAs that mimic tissue-like microstructures, enabling an in- depth exploration of the spatio-temporal dynamics between neoplastic and stromal cells.

Uses of the ICECAP measure of capability in adults with neurological health conditions: a scoping review.

Qual Life Res

September 2025

Department of Physical Therapy, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Purpose: The purpose was to identify how the ICECAP-A and ICECAP-O have been used with adults who have neurological health conditions.

Methods: Following the Joanna Briggs Institute framework, a scoping review was conducted, searching five databases (Scopus, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Embase, and PsycINFO). Studies were included if participants were adults (age 18+ years) with neurological health conditions, and ICECAP-A or ICECAP-O were used in the study.
