Background: Weekend catch-up sleep (WCS) may alleviate weekday sleep deprivation, but its relationship with depression risk remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to explore the association between WCS and depression risk.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus for observational studies published up to June 1, 2024. Data extraction and bias assessment were independently performed by two reviewers. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated, with model selection based on the I statistic. Sensitivity analyses and publication bias tests were also conducted.
Results: A total of ten cross-sectional studies (326,871 participants) were included. Meta-analysis showed that WCS was significantly associated with a reduced risk of depression (OR = 0.80, 95 % CI: 0.68-0.90). Subgroup analyses showed moderate amounts of WCS (0-2 h) may be protective, but WCS beyond 2 h had limited protective effects against depression. Qualitative analyses showed that the protective effect of WCS against depression was more pronounced in men and middle-aged adults, and was particularly applicable to those who were sleep-deprived on weekdays.
Limitations: The cross-sectional design of included studies limits causality inference, and the sample primarily represents populations from the United States and South Korea, potentially affecting generalizability.
Conclusions: Moderate WCS is associated with lower depression risk in those with weekday sleep deficits, while excessive WCS may have diminishing or adverse effects. Further research should examine optimal WCS duration and underlying mechanisms.

Background: Steaming hay reduces respirable particles and is commonly used to feed horses with asthma. However, it showed inconsistent benefits in clinical studies.
Objectives: (1) To assess the effects of steamed hay on lung function and airway inflammation in horses with severe equine asthma (SEA) in remission; (2) To compare these effects with a dry hay diet.

Significance: Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) enables neuroimaging in scenarios where other modalities are less suitable, such as during motion tasks or in low-resource environments. Sparse fNIRS arrays with 30 mm channel spacing are widely used but have limited spatial resolution. High-density (HD) arrays with overlapping, multidistance channels improve sensitivity and localization but increase costs and setup times.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The Shi Pi Zeng Ye Formula (SPZY), a traditional Chinese herbal compound, is empirically used for qi and yin replenishment and has been prescribed for managing functional constipation (FC) comorbid with depression. Although its clinical efficacy is recognized, the active constituents and their precise mechanisms of action in treating FC comorbid with depression have yet to be fully determined.
Aim Of The Study: This research aims to elucidate the efficacy and mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of SPZY on FC comorbid with depression, employing a single-arm study design alongside mass spectrometry, network pharmacology, and molecular docking.

Background: The Cervical White Cord Syndrome (WCS)/Reperfusion Injury (RI) rarely causes new major postoperative neurological deficits, and is attributed to the rapid surgical decompression of a chronically compressed/ischemic cord. Never a diagnosis based on "clinical judgment" alone, the WCS/RI is a that requires emergent postoperative MR confirmation of the classical "white cord" (i.e.

In the application of wrist-based Photoplethysmography (PPG) devices for health monitoring, assessing the quality of PPG signals is essential for accurately monitoring cardiovascular parameters. However, the wrist-based PPG signal is susceptible to motion and light interference in practical applications. A machine learning-based signal quality assessment algorithm for wrist PPG signals was proposed to improve the accuracy and reliability of the monitoring data.
