For genetic data to be used in forensic casework, it has to be produced within a controlled environment that follows strict quality standards. However, recent reviews have suggested that wildlife forensic laboratories are behind in the development and adherence to appropriate standards for casework. This paper will address these concerns by documenting the standards that have been produced, highlighting the systems of assessment and competency testing available, and reviewing the status of validated reference genetic databases. Networks of dedicated wildlife forensic scientists across the globe, represented in part by the author list for this paper, illustrate the strides taken to build capacity in this field, and an ongoing commitment to present quality wildlife forensic evidence in court.

The innate immune system serves as the first line of defense against viral infections. Type I interferon (IFN-I) signaling, in particular, plays a crucial role in mediating antiviral immunity. Here, we identify Betrixaban (BT), a novel small-molecule compound that activates innate immune responses, leading to broad-spectrum antiviral effects.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO-NPs) are used in the production of various industrial and commercial products and reported to cause neurotoxicity in Sprague Dawley rats. Fortunellin (FRN) is a potent flavonoid with diverse biological properties. This research experiment was performed to explore the protective role FRN against TiO-NPs induced brain damage.

The southern pudu () faces significant threats from anthropogenic activities and infectious diseases. Using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and forensic microbiology research, we describe a triple bacterial co-infection in a southern pudu impacted by wildfire disasters. The deer presented infected burn wounds on the extremities and dog bite wounds in the lumbosacral region, from which a multidrug-resistant CTX-M-1-producing sequence type (ST) ST224 and a ST145 were isolated, respectively.

This longitudinal survey followed the life cycle of a New Zealand broiler flock to investigate sources of flock colonization by . Samples were collected at frequent intervals from potential reservoirs and sources, transmission routes for ingress into the broiler shed, and to monitor flock colonization. Of the 738 samples, 200 (27%) tested positive for species from sample isolates included 316 , 39 and 8 isolates; only was isolated from chickens.

A particularly challenging subject in the investigation of forensic human biological traces is analyzing samples containing mixtures of body fluids from multiple donors. Ideally, researchers want to identify each type of body fluid present. However, traditional methods, like mRNA and DNA profiling, often struggle with sensitivity, specificity, and efficiency, especially in complex mixtures.
