Vertebrates exhibit remarkable morphological diversity, with the head representing an exceptionally complex anatomical structure shaped by adaptations to feeding ecology, brain size, and sensory organ specialization. Proper fusion of facial prominences and the coordinated growth of the skull and brain are essential for normal craniofacial development in vertebrates, including humans. Disruptions in these processes, whether due to gene mutations or external factors, can result in craniofacial malformations.

Syphilis cases are increasing in Japan, highlighting the urgent need for rapid and accurate diagnosis. In primary syphilis, serological tests may yield negative results, so direct microscopic observation of remains an important but often underused diagnostic method. We present a simple, widely accessible phase-contrast microscopy system, featuring a USB camera and monitor, enabling high-clarity, real-time observation of live wild-type treponemes directly from patient lesions.

Hominins evolved a more muscular and opposable thumb while the other fingers are relatively shorter, enhancing manipulative capacity. Objective: To develop a patient-derived xenograft model (PDX) of Scrotal Paget's disease (SPD), providing an experimental tool for the screening of therapeutic drugs and the development of new drugs for SPD treatment.
Methods: SPD tumor tissues were implanted into the subcutaneous area of the right scapula in male NOD-Scid mice to establish a PDX model. PDX tissues were characterized using H&E staining, immunohistochemistry, and PCR.
The adrenal medulla and organs of Zuckerkandl consist of chromaffin cells that produce, store, and secrete catecholamines. In humans, the adrenal medulla is known to function throughout postnatal life, while the organs of Zuckerkandl degenerate by 2-3 years of postnatal life. Although the history of investigation of chromaffin cells goes back more than a century, little is known about the reciprocal organogenesis of the adrenal glands and organs of Zuckerkandl during human fetal development.
