Article Abstract

Neural retina leucine zipper (NRL) is essential for the development of rods. The Nrl knockout (Nrl) mouse develops a cone-rich retina which facilitates investigations of cone biology. Previously, we identified the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response gene ATF6 as a cause of cone dysfunction in people. Here, we investigated Atf6's influence on mouse cones in the cone-dominant Nrl mouse. We find that cone development appears unaffected, but the cone-dominant Nrl retina is highly vulnerable to ER stress-induced damage.

Background: Hyperthermia (HT), while a cancer treatment approach, isn't always effective alone. Therefore, identifying hyperthermia enhancers is crucial. We demonstrated that Mito-TEMPO ([2-[(1-Hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl) amino]-2-oxoethyl]-triphenylphosphanium, MT) acts as a potent thermosensitizer, promoting cell death in human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells.

Bromuconazole, a widely used triazole-based pesticide, effectively controls fungal diseases in agriculture. Bromuconazole cause a potential toxic effect to non-target organisms and can have a negative impact on reproductive health in women, due to its long half-life and bioaccumulation ability. Age is the most significant risk factor for Parkinson's disease, a common and progressive neurodegenerative disorder; however, exposure to toxic substances is also strongly implicated. Rotenone, an organic pesticide, induces neuropathological features of Parkinson's disease, and is widely used to create rodent models of the condition.
