Background: The aim of the study was to assess if 3D CT-scan-based planification of distal filling ratio (DFR) is accurate when compared to postoperative DFR calculated on plain X-rays. A secondary aim was to investigate if an association between clinical outcomes and the degree of stress shielding (SS) exists.
Methods: Fifty patients with short-stem reverse shoulder arthroplasties, preoperative CT scans, and a minimum 24-month radiographic follow-up were included in the study. At 24 months follow-up, all patients were evaluated by assessing the postoperative filling ratios, the 3D DFRs, the simple shoulder test, Constant-Murley score, and visual analogue scale through a prospectively data collection and statistically analyzed.
Results: A correlation between the 3D DFR and SS onset (r 0.54; < 0.001), and between postoperative DFR and SS (r 0.71; < 0.001), was found. The 3D DFR and the postoperative DFR were correlated (r 0.89; < 0.0001). SS negatively affects the postoperative range of motion, decreasing the forward elevation of the shoulder.
Conclusion: The calculation of DFR based on 3D CT planning is a good predictor of humeral SS after short-stem RTAs. The presence of SS decreases clinical outcomes by lowering the anterior elevation of the shoulder.

Millions of people worldwide are exposed to environmental arsenic in drinking water, resulting in both malignant and nonmalignant diseases. Interestingly, early life exposure by itself is sufficient to produce higher incidences of these diseases later in life. Based on the delayed onset of disease, we hypothesized that early life arsenic exposure would also induce long-term alterations in the metabolic profile.

Sectionally nonlinearly functionally graded (SNFG) structures with triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) are considered ideal for bone implants because they closely replicate the hierarchical, anisotropic, and porous architecture of natural bone. The smooth gradient in material distribution allows for optimal load transfer, reduced stress shielding, and enhanced bone ingrowth, while TPMS provides high mechanical strength-to-weight ratio and interconnected porosity for vascularization and tissue integration. Wherein, The SNFG structure contains sections with thickness that varies nonlinearly along their length in different patterns.

With the rapid advancement in autonomous vehicles, 5G and future 6G communications, medical imaging, spacecraft, and stealth fighter jets, the frequency range of electromagnetic waves continues to expand, making electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding a critical challenge for ensuring the safe operation of equipment. Although some existing EMI shielding materials offer lightweight construction, high strength, and effective shielding, they struggle to efficiently absorb broadband electromagnetic waves and mitigate dimensional instability and thermal stress caused by temperature fluctuations. These limitations significantly reduce their service life and restrict their practical applications.

Background: Patients with secondary hip osteoarthritis due to developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) often have abnormal femoral morphology, making stem design critical for long-term outcomes. The FMS-anatomic stem previously demonstrated favourable mid-term results. Active films displayed substantial prospects to maintain quality of tropical fruits during storage and transportation. This study developed multifunctional composite films loaded with melatonin/carvacrol nanoemulsions (MCNE) in guar gum/pullulan polysaccharide (GP) matrixes.
