Purpose: Cerebral structural changes in both cortical and subcortical regions were detected in the pathology of glutaric aciduria type 1 (GA-1) patients. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging was limited by radiologist-inter variability in evaluating its severity. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify the affected brain structures and their functional correlations within the cortical and subcortical regions of patients with GA-1.
Methods: Seventeen patients with GA-1 and 17 healthy controls (HCs) were included (mean age, 38 ± 17 months; both groups contained 6 males). Three-dimensional T1-weighted imaging data were acquired, and voxel and surface-based morphometry were used to quantitatively investigate differences in gray matter volume (GMV) and cortical thickness (CT). Two-sample t-tests were performed.
Results: Patients with GA-1 had lower GMV in the bilateral basal ganglia, thalamus, limbic system, default mode network, and right cerebellum, as well as lower CT in the bilateral insula, lateral occipital cortex, right inferior parietal cortex, inferior temporal gyrus, and posterior cingulate cortex than HCs. Patients with GA-1 had higher CT in the bilateral lingual gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, superior frontal gyrus, left postcentral gyrus, right precuneus, precentral gyrus, middle temporal gyrus, and inferior temporal gyrus than HCs. In patients with GA-1, urinary glutaryl-carnitine levels were significantly negatively correlated with the GMV in the left inferior temporal gyrus.
Conclusion: Our brain morphological analyses revealed quantitative differences in the GMV and CT of GA-1 patients compared to HCs and provided useful information about normal and abnormal neuroanatomy.

Objective: To examine the short-term and long-term effects of computer-based cognitive training on postural stability, locomotion, and cognitive performance in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.
Methods: Sixty-eight PD participated in this randomized-controlled trial, were randomly allocated into two groups; control group (GA) received a designed physiotherapy program for 60 minutes, and an experimental group (GB) got 30 minutes physiotherapy program as GA, along with 30 minutes of computerized cognitive training. Treatment sessions were three times/week for eight weeks.

Organic acidemias (OADs) are a group of congenital metabolic disorders whose incidence, disease spectrum, and genetic profiles differ greatly across countries. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of OADs in Quanzhou, China. A total of 693,797 newborns were screened for OADs from 2014 to 2023, and the acylcarnitine and genetic profiles of patients with OADs were analysed.

Bariatric surgery significantly improves glycemic control and can lead to type 2 diabetes remission. However, the reliability of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) as a type 2 diabetes biomarker post-surgery can be confounded by conditions such as anemia and gastrointestinal complications. Hence, we explored the use of alternative biomarkers such as glycated albumin (GA), 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG), and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) to monitor glycemic control more effectively in post-bariatric surgery patients.

Introduction: Patients with gastric atrophy (GA) and intestinal metaplasia (GIM) are considered to be at risk for gastric neoplasia (GN: dysplasia or cancer). During the last decades, standards of practice and endoscopic technologies have been developed and proposed. This meta-analysis reassesses GN incidence rates in GA and GIM patients, analyzing its evolution and the impact of standard protocols and scores.

The purpose of this study is that the combination effects of Peyronie's disease (PD) therapy with Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i) plus acetylsalicylic acid on improve curvature progression and pain in the active phase of disease. We performed a retrospective cohort study of 161 patients affected by PD in active stage and erectile dysfunction treated with tadalafil 5 mg once daily were divided in two groups. Group A(GA): 93 men treated with only PDE5i (tadalafil 5 mg) for 1 year or more and Group B(GB): 68 men that received tadalafil 5 mg plus aspirin 100 mg with the same protocol of GA.
