Article Abstract

(ASC) contains a variety of bioactive compounds and serves as an important traditional Chinese medicinal resource. However, its prolonged growth cycle and reliance on wild populations limit its practical use. To explore the potential of (ASF) as an alternative, this study focused on optimizing the extraction process and assessing the bioactivity of stem extracts. The Analytic Hierarchy Process-Entropy Weight Method (AHP-EWM) was applied to comprehensively score five key active compounds in ASF stems, establishing a benchmark for evaluating extraction efficiency. Ultrasound-assisted enzymatic extraction (UAEE) was employed, and orthogonal and response surface experiments were conducted to refine the extraction parameters. The optimal conditions identified were an ultrasound temperature of 59 °C, a duration of 57 min, an ethanol concentration of 61%, and a liquid-to-material ratio of 39:1, resulting in an AHP-EWM composite score of 94.76. Comparative analysis of antibacterial and antioxidant activities revealed that ASC extracts exhibited superior antibacterial effects, while ASF extracts demonstrated enhanced antioxidant properties. These findings support the partial replacement of ASC with ASF, contributing to the conservation of wild resources and expanding the application of ASF in medicinal development.

As a naturally derived biomacromolecule, chitosan is widely utilized in food preservation. However, the chitosan derived from silkworm pupae and its application in food preservation are relatively unexplored. To obtain chitosan with enhanced preservation properties, silkworm pupae chitosan was extracted using dual-frequency ultrasound-assisted chemical and enzymatic methods, followed by a comparative analysis of their physicochemical properties, biological activity, and preservation efficacy on strawberries.

Cistanche deserticola polysaccharide (CDPS) serves as a key active component in both medicinal and edible functional foods. By optimizing the enzyme ratio and ultrasonic extraction parameters, the extraction yield was raised to 23.83 %, and four fractions (CDPS-1 to CDPS-4) were obtained through graded purification.

Mango peel is one of the main byproducts in mango processing. In order to improve the utilization and added-value of mango peel, effects of the ultrasound-assisted enzymatic method on the extraction rate of mangiferin from mango peel were investigated by single-factor tests (enzyme addition amount, enzymolysis time, ethanol concentration, ultrasonic temperature, ultrasonic power, and ultrasonic time), and the extraction process was optimized by Box-Behnken response surface. The antioxidant activity and antidiabetic assay of mangiferin in vitro were studied.

Department of Food Science and Biotechnology, BB21plus Project Team, Kyungsung University, Busan 48434, Korea.

This study aimed to evaluate the extraction of biotin from plant-based foods using takadiastase in combination with autoclave- or ultrasound-assisted extraction. In cereals, vegetables, and mushrooms, autoclave-assisted enzymatic extraction obtained higher analytical values compared with autoclave-assisted extraction. However, in legumes and nuts, ultrasound-assisted enzymatic extraction obtained higher biotin content compared with either autoclave- or ultrasound-assisted extraction.

Objective: This study aimed to establish a multiplex molecular point-of-care assay called incorporating an ultra-fast sample pre-treatment for direct identification of complex (MTBC) and 8 non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) commonly prioritized in clinical settings, and to evaluate its performance in 149 clinical confirmed mycobacterial-positive samples.

Methods: The study was divided into two stages: a pilot study to establish the methodology and a clinical validation study to evaluate its performance. In the pilot study, we established the and analyzed its performance regarding limits of detection, reproducibility, specificity and efficiency.
