Article Abstract

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been recognized as promising materials for membrane-based separation technologies due to their exceptional porosity, structural tunability, and chemical stability. This review presents a comprehensive discussion of the advancements in structure engineering and design strategies that have been employed to optimize UiO-66 membranes for enhanced separation performance. Various synthesis methods for UiO-66 membranes are explored, with a focus on modulated approaches that incorporate different modulators to fine-tune nucleation rates and crystallization processes. The influence of preferred orientation, membrane thickness, pore size, pore surface chemistry, and hierarchical structures on the separation performance is concluded. By providing a consolidated overview of current research efforts and future directions in UiO-66 membrane development, this review aims to inspire further advancements in the field of separation technologies.

A CoO/AgMoO/CeOternary nanocomposites photocatalyst was successfully synthesized through a straightforward ethanol-assisted chemical method. Comprehensive characterization of its structural and optical properties was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of CoO, AgMoO and CeO in the ternary composite sample.

Targeted protein degraders hold potential as therapeutic agents to target conventionally 'undruggable' proteins. Here, we develop a high-throughput screen, DEath FUSion Escaper (DEFUSE), to identify small-molecule protein degraders. By conjugating the protein of interest to a fast-acting triggerable death protein, this approach translates target protein degradation into a cell survival phenotype to illustrate the presence of degraders.

Using the stable synthetic analogue 3-aza-dehydroxylysyl-phosphatidylglycerol (3adLPG), the putative role of native staphylococcal LPG in inhibiting the antibiotic daptomycin from binding to its target phosphatidylglycerol (PG), was investigated with respect to interfacial interactions between these lipids, daptomycin, and calcium ions. The influence of lipid monolayer/bilayer composition and interfacial ion concentrations upon the structure and integrity of model membranes were probed after daptomycin challenge using a combination of surface x-ray scattering techniques and fluorescence assays. In models representing the membrane composition of the daptomycin susceptible phenotype consisting of PG/3adLPG in a 7:3 M ratio, calcium ions drive the formation of two separate phases; Ca cross-linked PG/PG pairs and PG/3adLPG ion pairs.

With the acceleration of global industrialization, a large amount of polluted wastewater is discharged indiscriminately, which both pollutes the environment and threatens human health. In this study, by constructing a binary system of unsaturated polyester resin/carboxychitosan, and improving the inherent defects of carboxychitosan aerogel, we successfully prepared aerogels with high porosity, low density, and laminar porous structure for water remediation by using a combination of the sol-gel method and directional freezing technology. Thanks to the synergistic effect of surface wettability and special pore structure, the aerogel not only adsorbs and separates MB and Pb(II) efficiently with a separation efficiency of more than 99 %, but also has a separation efficiency of 99.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is common and has a major impact on women's daily activities and quality of life. Wenjing Decoction (WD), a classic Chinese medicine formula, has been widely used for thousands of years in China to treat PD. However, the key pharmacodynamic substances in WD responsible for its anti-dysmenorrhea efficacy are still unclear.
