Leveraging external data information to supplement randomized clinical trials has been a popular topic in recent years, especially for medical device and drug discovery. In rare diseases, it is very challenging to recruit patients and run a large-scale randomized trial. To take advantage of real-world data from historical trials on the same disease, we can run a small hybrid trial and borrow historical controls to increase the power. But the borrowing needs to be conducted in a statistically principled manner. Bayesian power prior methods and propensity score adjustments have been discussed in the literature. In this paper, we propose a matching-assisted power prior approach to better mitigate observed bias when incorporating external data. A subset of comparable external subjects is selected by groups through template matching, and different weights are assigned to these groups based on their similarity to the current study population. Power priors are then implemented to incorporate the information into Bayesian inference. Unlike conventional power prior methods, which discount all control patients similarly, matching pre-selects good controls, hence improved the quality of external data being borrowed. We compare its performance with the existing propensity score-integrated power prior approach through simulation studies and illustrate the implementation using data from a real acupuncture clinical trial.

X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a rare and progressive disease, due to inactivating mutations in the phosphate-regulating endopeptidase homolog X-linked (PHEX) gene. These pathogenic variants result in elevated circulating levels of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), responsible for the main clinical manifestations of XLH, such as hypophosphatemia, skeletal deformities, and mineralization defects. However, XLH also involves muscular disorders (muscle weakness, pain, reduced muscle density, peak strength, and power).

Terahertz communication systems demand versatile devices capable of simultaneously controlling propagating waves and surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in far-field (FF) and near-field (NF) channels, yet existing solutions are constrained by volatile operation, single-function limitations, and the inability to integrate NF and FF functionalities. Here, we present a nonvolatile reconfigurable terahertz metasurface platform leveraging the phase-change material GeSbTe(GST) to achieve on-demand dual-channel modulation-a first in the terahertz regime. By exploiting the stark conductivity contrast of GST between amorphous and crystalline states, our design enables energy-efficient switching between NF-SPP manipulation and FF-wavefront engineering without requiring continuous power input.

Rationale: Electrospray (ESI), the most popular desorption/ionization technique used in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, generates both protonated and deprotonated molecules, as well as adduct ions, sodium being the most frequent monoatomic cation entering their composition. With the spread and generalization of untargeted data-dependent and independent tandem mass spectrometry experiments, considering product ion spectra of sodium-containing entities appears relevant to complement fragmentation information of their protonated and deprotonated counterparts.
Methods: Solutions of pure standards, mainly amino and organic acids, were prepared at 1 μg/mL and injected either by direct infusion or by flow-injection prior to ESI-MS/MS analysis.
