Article Abstract

Herein, we report an electricity-driven activation of aziridine via direct anodic oxidation to give -heterocycles and 1,2-bifunctionalized products by excluding any oxidant/reductant or metal catalyst. Many structurally modified aziridines were employed in the presence of different nitriles. A large variety of nucleophiles were screened to furnish chemoselectively O-alkylated and C-alkylated products. Late-stage derivatization of aziridine with natural and medicinally active compounds has also been done. Remarkably, our strategy was found to be a greener, sustainable, and atom-economical approach (-factor = ca. 0.8). Azetidine was also found to be compatible with our protocol and generated six-membered -heterocycles. The detailed mechanistic study highlighted that the reaction is driven via the generation of an aziridine radical cation followed by the S2 nucleophilic attack.

Embryo transfer (ET) is a valuable reproductive technology in pigs, albeit its efficiency remains significantly lower than that of natural mating or artificial insemination (AI), owing to high embryonic death rates. Critical for embryo survival and pregnancy success is the placenta, which supports conceptus development through nutrient exchange, hormone production, and immune modulation. Alterations in placental development and function may therefore underlie the reduced efficiency of ET.

Coffee plants and beans are prone to fungal contamination that pose health risks to consumers by producing mycotoxins like ochratoxin A (OTA). Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the mycobiota of Costa Rican coffee beans, focusing on potentially ochratoxigenic species and their in vitro susceptibility patterns to antifungal agents. Fungal isolates were obtained from cherry, green, and roasted coffee beans from Costa Rica; they were identified by morphology, MALDI-TOF technology, and sequencing.

Excess mortality and disease burden due to conflict in Gaza: focus on the 0-14 age group.

Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Ankara, Türkiye.

Background: The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to take an unbearable toll, with particularly severe impacts on children. Measuring the burden of conflict-related disease in Gaza in terms of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) is important in terms of showing this effect. The aim of this study was to calculate the conflict-related DALY in Gaza among children aged 0-14 years, following the October 7 events and compare these values with global and expected values.
